Question about Mitsubishi Lancer
It could be the fuel pressure regulator valve is at fault. Maybe its time to have a fuel pressure diagnostic run along with having the injectors flushed. How is the transmission fluid level looking, check it on the transmission dipstick whilst the engine is running (have someone engage 'drive' while both the parking and foot brakes are engaged). If it is brown and low replace the transmission filter and top up with fresh fluid

the good thing is that it is shifting into higher gear, which i assume is an auto transmission, it means it is adapting to the extra load
hesitate, could mean a number of things.........my first question and most imprtant question, is does the car get regularly serviced, if it does not, i would suggest a tune-up, replace spark plugs, leads, distributor cap and leads etc.....
it is getting long in life, and just like all of us, we need a bit of tending care
if it has been serviced recently, speak to the mechanic to see if he recognised any faults that may contribute to it
unfortunatley the worst case scenario, is the head gasket, as these are common to go at this time, but try and keep positive
