Question about 1997 BMW 328
It could be a fuse, or something disconnected. You'll can start with fuses
and making sure the switch is plugged in. If both of those are fine, then i might put
it down manually and check out the microswitches.
Also, make sure the trunk is fully closed and latched shut; the car won't allow the top to operate if the the trunk is open, and it won't release the trunk when the top is not fully open or closed.
The top must be put back into the stowed position. Push the release levers back to the locked position. Lock the top motor in place (push it upwards from inside the trunk after removing the inner trunk trim panels) Next- have someone press down on the top lid while you press the motor back into place (left side trunk) You may have to let up and press down on the cover a couple times to get it to fully engage. Next- (trunk closed) turn the key to the ON position and hold the top button in the top DOWN position until you see the top lid cover move downwards. That should be it all that is required.
Look in the trunk (right side) there you will see a fuse. This fuse is for the roof system only. Check that.
Check all of the fuses in the regular fuse box (in the engine compartment) that are related to the roof movement.
Try the Ry-Synch procedure found here: VIDEO
Another thing to check (that is commonly malfunctions in these cars) is the Convertible Top Module. If this goes out, your top will have no movement and no sound. Nos solutions, just replace it and re-program it.
