HI there. The total capcity(including the torque converter) will be 5.6 Quarts. The actual brand or type will be Mobil 1 0W-40(SuperSyn Technology ATF)

  • NOTE_ If this is a manual transmission, the correct gear oil weight will be 80-90w or regular ATF fluid. Check your manual to confirm gear type if this is the case. Most newer vehicles will use the same ATF fluid in the manual gear box, as well.

AmberjugsCan I put brake oil in my VW Golf or does a specialists have to do this?

You can easily put in brake fluid yourself. Just make sure you use DOT4 brake fluid (Castrol, etc..) To top up your fluid locate master cylinder (drivers side, white plastic reservoir just in front of driver) remove cap and top up to "full" level (marked on side of reservoir)

2001 VW Diesel Golf TDI. Car started no problem. Drove to gas station. Stopped for gas. glow plug light wouldn't come on, engine wouldn't start, engine turning but not starting. Waited a few minutes then...

the glow plugs only come on when the engine is below a certain temp,so if you drove it to the gas station, chances are it didnt need them.BUT,it could have been just at the temp that the glow plugs werent needed and the engine was still coldish.happens very rarely.wet air is colder than hot air so that would also have an effect.lastly, this engine is known to foul up the injectors with carbon so use redexe/wynns or similar at 1can to 1/2 tank fuel, you WILL feel the difference.......

How do I check automatic transmission fluid?

On a 2001 VW Golf, there is no check for the transmission, check your motor oil dipstick, since everything is practically a closed system. This is the reason why ALOT of mechanic's won't touch VW's, Audi's, etc... because they're just wierd unless you've been repairing them you're entire life.

Where is the switch for my 1997 VW Golf rear windsheild wiper? I just bought it and I can't find it...

The switch for the rear wiper is on the actual windshield wiper switch for the front wipers, you have to push the lever forward to turn it on and then again to turn it off, to use the washer fluid for the rear wiper you push the same lever forward and hold it there till the washer fluid comes out.

Not properly accelerating

If you had somebody do it, I would take it back and tell them what it's doing. I'm not sure about vw's, but if that is equipped with a hydraulic clutch, it could be low on fluid, or something wrong with the slave valve.

Changing the automatic transmission fluid on this vehicle takes special fluid and equipment which includes a scan tool that can read transmission fluid temperature. I would recommend going to a VW dealer or service center that works on VW’s
