Question about 2003 Ford Focus

1 Answer

Replaced coil, wires and spark plugs, and after 700 miles the number 3 cylinder is misfiring, according to the code. I replaced the coil, wires and spark plugs (warranty on parts) again and nothing changed. Can the computer be faulty?

I would first look at removing the injector on three and taking a look at it and give a thorough back flush. How does the spark plug on three look compared to any of the others, does it look hot (glazed) or sooty black. The former is too lean (perhaps a partially blocked injector) or the latter too rich (perhaps a leaky or split injector)

Causes cylinder misfire

Most common cause is an old spark plug that burnt out the coil. Spark plugs should be replaced every 100,000 miles. If the plugs are old replace the spark plugs and swap the coil with cylinder 6. If the code jumps to cylinder 6 you know you have a bad coil.

Misfire in number 3 and number 4 cylinders

Misfire is not always from coil. It could be from spark pug wire and injector.
Solution:
-Test the injector at the misfire cylinder. Is it within specification...?
No.>>> The injector is bad. Replace new one.
Yes. the injectors are good and within its specification.
-Check the plug wire. it might be broken and spark to ground or too much resistant. If so replace it.

My mercury sable 2002 motor Ustyle idals bad code p0316,301,303 come up changed spark plugs and wires still showing same codes what should i check now

PO301 & PO 303 are cylinder misfire in the cyclinders
indicated by the codes last number #1 & #3

Spark Plugs get replaced every 3 years or so & have
nothing to do with resolving any misfire issues, unless
they were in the motor for 80,000 miles & worn out

Spark Plug wire easily last 12 to 15 years or more &
usually only fail because they are mishanded & too often

You problem IF the codes are correct & they are not all the
time,is a bad ignition module or individual coil if that is
what you have

Terraza P0303 Code. What's most likely cause? Injector, spark plug, wires or any of the above?

Might be dirty injector or burned valve. Check the connector on the injector. If good, run a compression test on all cylinders. If compression is significantly lower on #3, the head will have to come off. If compression is good, pull up the injector rail with injectors and wiring attached. Watch the injectors spray as someone cranks the engine.

Terraza P0303 Code. What's most likely cause? Injector, spark plug, wires or any of the above?

Without testing we would be just guessing . Hook up a spark tester to # 3 cylinder plug wire , is there spark ? Is the fuel injector for that cylinder squirting fuel , they make tools for checking this . Hook up a fuel pressure gauge an fire the injector , does fuel pressure drop. Could be a engine mechanical problem , compression test . Videos on youtube showing how to do these test's .

According to the obd code i am getting a misfire in the number one cyln and it kind of sputters what is causing it

1. Bad or fouled Spark Plug at #1 Cylinder.
2. Bad or misfiring Wire going from the #1 on the Distributor/Electronic Ignition Coil to the #1 Cylinder.
3. Misfiring at the #1 on the Distributor/Electronic Iginition Coil.

a. Unplug the #1 Wire at the #1 on the Distributor/Electronic Ignition Coil.
b. Using an Auto electrical testing: Probe, wire and ground clip electrical, stick the Probe into the opening at the #1 Distributor/Electronic Ignition Coil. Use the grounding clip - clipped to a portion on the engine.
c. Start the Vehicle and check for rhythmic spark.
d. If there is NOT rhythmic spark, the Distributor/Electronic Ignition Coil needs to be replaced.
e. Turn off the engine.
f. If there is rhythmic spark: Reconnect the #1 Wire at #1 on the Distrubutor/Electronic Igntion Coil.
g. Disconnect the #1 Wire from the #1 Spark Plug.
h. Again using an Auto electrical testing: Probe, wire and ground clip. Insert the Probe into the end of the #1 Wire and clip the ground clip onto the engine.
i. Start the engine again.
j. Again Check for rhythmic spark.
k. If there is NOT rhythmic spark the #1 Wire needs to be replaced. (Replace all Wires as a Set).
l. If there is rhythmic spark then the #1 Wire is fine.
m. Turn off the engine,
n. Remove and Inspect the #1 Spark Plug. Clean if necessary and Regap.
o. Reinstall the Spark Plug and reconnect the #1 Wire.
p. Restart the engine.
q, If the code reappears:
r. Replace all the Spark Plugs.

Engine code states cylinder 2 misfire. Replaced

sounds like a bad injector, just connection at the injector, also check for leaks at intake, one more thing , do a compression test on that cylinder start there, good luck.

#5 cylinder misfire

I have a corolla and had #4 cylinder misfire also diagnosed at autozone. After changing the spark plugs, problem persisted, along with the same error code, so they recommended changing the spark plug wires, and that is what fixed it. I would have changed the rotor cap too, but was low on dough. Glad that was not the problem.
