Question about 2005 Nissan Altima

Clicking sound under hood - possible timing chain

I was wondering how long does a timing chain last on a V6 2005 Altima? My car has 160K on it and there is a clicking noise that last for about 15 minutes when I start it in the morning.

Timing chain life span varies, it depends on what type of driving u do, for instance heavy on the throttle wears ythem out faster from the streaching this causes, but at 160,000 miles the noise u are hearing is likely a loose timing chain, replace it before it comes apart and damages the engine. This job is not for the home mechanic, it requires special tools and a high degree of skill and a factory service manual is a must.

Yeah the timing chain systems on these altimas are not for the average DIY person. Definitely something for a fully qualified mechanic.

Anti theft would kill ignition system. Your fuel pump is not running. If it has about 160k miles, replace the pump. If its 140k or less, check fusable links or computer grounds.

I have 2006 Nissan Altima. The engine will not start or turnover, there is also a clicking sound that is coming from the black wiring box, which is located under the hood by front passenger side...

What size engine ? The clicking you hear is probably the starter relay , provided you hear the click while turning the key to the start position . That black box is the fuse / relay junction box. Testing the starter electrical circuits with a volt meter is the way to find the problem . Voltage drop testing . Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. Year , make , model and engine size . Under system click on engine then under subsystem click on starting . Click the search button then the blue link.Does your vehicle have a manual or automatic transmission ? First blue link for a manual transmission ,the second link for a automatic transmission .

I have a 2003 Nissan Altima. Do I have a timing Chain or Belt. How long does the timing chain last? I have 195,000 miles on my car.

Timing chain. Normally they will last for at least 150,000 miles or longer. If it becomes noisy or car is hard to start, backfires, or performance is sub-par have it checked.

Timing belt replacement millage

The Nissan Altima does not use a timing belt, it uses a chain driven camshaft, timing chains have no set mileage and should last the life of the engine.

Does my 94 c220 have a timing belt and when should i change it

Your Benz has a timing chain, not a timing belt. It actually last for a long time. Mine has 160K and I have not changed it. Some people still have it for more than 200K. So I think it is up to the owner. My target is 250K.

Steering wheel vibration and whine noise from rear of car

Yes, and it probably is your wheel bearing. Hearing a sound like a chain dragging is classic. You may also hear a clicking noise or chain dragging noise when turning to the left or right.

Look under the car and see if the rubber boots that surround the axle near the tires are cracked and leaking grease. If so, it is almost a certainty that the bearings are bad as you have lost grease and thus lubrication to the bearings.

Good luck,
bob

Hi there,
you will need new upper timing chain and sprockets. Common problem on altima your year. Nissan has TSB for it. First they had us remove the upper timing chain guide, but after that, they had us replace all top chain components.
