Question about 2000 Ford Focus

What is the firing order for my 2000 ford focus?

I changed the spark plugs and wires, after the diagnostic test resulted in a #2 misfire. Now it seems the car is vibrating and running even worst.

2000 Ford focus misfire cylinder 2 misfire new plugs wires coil pack

Did you do a compression test? If that's good, did you check if you getting a good spark? If you do, check if you getting electrical pulse to the fuel injector, if you do, replace it.

I need ignition coil diagram ford focus 2000 LX (connections back 4321)

you have a single 3 or 4 pin connector to the coil pack. Someimes the wires get corroded and break off at the connector. Ford has a pigtail kit to fix that issue. Usually a misfire with the check engine light on.

Green/bluestripe is from ignition switch

Black/green stripe is to PCM (computer)

Black/orange stripe is to PCM

These last 2 wires are what the PCM uses to fire the spark plugs 2 at a time.

Firing Order diagram for 2006 Ford Explorer

Hope this helps. The ignition coil:
  • changes low-voltage pulses from the PCM to high-voltage pulses.
  • fires 2 spark plugs simultaneously.
  • has 3 transformers.
    • One transformer fires the spark plugs for cylinders 1 and 5
    • One transformer fires the spark plugs for cylinders 2 and 6
    • One transformer fires the spark plugs for cylinders 3 and 4
Spark plug wires:
  • carry high-voltage pulses from the ignition coil to the spark plugs.
The spark plugs:
  • change high-voltage pulses to spark at the gap, which ignites the fuel and air mixture.
The firing order is 1-4-2-5-3-6.

I have a 2001 Focus that is showing a #3 misfire, changed the spark plugs and wires and it is still running rough? What next?

had the same thing with my crown vic on the #8 cylinder. changed plugs and wires. still missing. wound up replacing the coil pack. you can check resistence of the coil between companion spark plug towers. ford marks each tower with 2 cylinder #'s. resisistence should be around 10-12 ohms

Engine warning light comes on, diagnostic says

if your car give you i code thats says mutlipul misfire on number 1,2,3,or four cyl. that means that that cyl is not firing when its suppost to so if the code says number 3 cyl misfire or multipul misfire replace number 3 spark plug and coil pack and 80% of the time that will solve the problem.

Miss fire in cylinder 1 and 4

Problem could be as simple as a vacuum leak around either of those cylinders. A vacuum leak can create a lean fuel mixure condition resulting in a miss fire. One thing to rememeber is that depending on the style of ignition in use. The opposing cylinder's spark plug and wires act as the return path for the unused voltage from the coils firing which is why you are having seemingly unrelated misfires. If either has a problem then the symptoms are shown in both cylinders.
