Question about Audi AllRoad

1 Answer

Tiptronic box on Audi A6 Allraod, 2.7T seems to not enage gear at pull off. Also seems to not want to change until really high revs are reached. particularly going from 2-3-4. Gear change is very abrupt and not as smooth at it should be? Any advice?

Any possible faulty of synchronization there, or insufficient pump output (e.g. voltage at the pump for additional shift stage V190 is too low), pump is defective or suction/ pressure lines are blocked); I suggest check your hydarulic regulator and the valve solenoid in the case; also confirm that the pressure in the system its according with your service manual.

Keep in mind to check the Control Unit/Shifting Strategies. The low range additional shift stage must only be used with the engine running. If the engine is switched off while in low range, low range will automatically be switched OFF when it is restarted and the clutch is actuated. This will prevent unnecessary low range operation.

If the engine is stalled and restart within 15 seconds, low range will be retained (no automatic OFF). It is assumed that the driver would prefer this, in this situation.

Fitting location:
The additional shift stage control unit J554 is located in the housing box below the carpet in front of the passenger seat (instead of the control unit for the automatic gearbox).

I am at a complete loss with your explanation!!! This vehicle is a soft roader and as such has no "low range", unless I am missing the picture. Your note regarding the voltage regulator, please clarify more on this issue, as well as on the hydraulic pressures that you mentioned.

    Many Thanks

1999 AUDI A6 avant 2.8L quattro. Car vibrates

This is a manual transmission? If so the clutch probably needs to be replaced. When you say "VIOLENTLY" what is going on, what is the road speed, what are the RPMs at? The more specific information the better. And this problem ONLY occurs between gear changes, right? The other times, everything is normal?

2000 audi a6 powerless on hills and only goes in drive and reverse

You need to get into a transmission shop right away. The fluid/filter may just need to be changed, or it could go way beyond that.

Allroad Tiptronic Gearbox "holding" gears before changing up.

Have you had the vehicle put on a diagnostic machine, does the car feel slugish, any lack of power, we have seen a lot of these vehicles with air mass sensor faults. When they fail they do not show a code but with the right scanner they can be seen not working. This affects the gearchange because the ecu does not have the correct data to shift. Of course it could also be the transmission is in need of overhaul. but i would take it to a good diagnostic garage first. It is not uncommon for the air mass sensor to fail after it has been disturbed or knocked in the workshop. we have never found out why.

I have been having similar problems. The clutch is slipping as thats how you get the variable gears when in full auto, but this is where the problem comes from, some garages (auto gearbox specialists) are now able to fix it. Do not go to Audi as all they do is replace the gearbox (very expensive). There is no quick fix though! Sorry for the bad news!!

Your car is in limp mode. The trans control computer is located under the carpet in front of the forward passenger seat. You probably have water in the control box.
