Question about 1999 Dodge Stratus

1 Answer

Ok, I have a 1999 Dodge Stratus, it is having electrical problems. it keeps blowing the 20amp fuse that is for the fuel system, and I can't remember what. We have replaced the ignition switch, and the main fuses, and a whole bunch of things. We have not replaced the fuel pump, do you think that is the problem? Help, I don't want to loose my car, and or put 1000's of dollars more in it either. Thank you Julie

The fuel pump is the most likely problem,it is shorting out.But change the fuel pump relay first,if this does not help, replace the fuel filter, then as you know,if this does not help the problem, replace the fuel pump,it is in the fuel tank.

Thank you so much. Is this a common problem with these cars? Should I just replace all of the above since the tank has to be dropped to change the switch? The car has 165,000 miles on it. I just cant let go. It's my baby, was my first new car.

I do not know witch switch you are talking about,I would do these thing s in the order I mentioned,so not to have to drop the fuel tank to change the fuel pump if not needed, but,I think it will be the fuel pump.

On my 2006 dodge stratus my cig lighter won't work

Normally this would be in your owners manual.
The power for the outlets may be on the same circuit with the horn.
On some models there is an accessory relay that handles the outlets.
There should be a 20amp fuse in the box in the engine compartment that feeds the circuit. You may have to check all of the 20amp fuses to find it.

20 amp ignition fuse keeps blowing on my 2003 dodge stratus

SOunds like a closed short in the ignition system. The actual ignition could be at fault. The starter may be at fault. Pinched or exposed wiring touching the chassis or another live wire may be the cause. Check your manual to be sure the 20 amp fuse is the proper fuse for the ignition system. It may just be to low of an amp and may be a 25 to 60 amp fuse or more. Only use the recommended size of fuse as using too high a amperage in a fuse can cause bigger problems if the fuse does not blow in time. These fuses serve a purpose to save the electrical and electronic parts form unnecessary damage.

1998 dodge stratus fuse fuel pump ignition keeps blowing out i replaced it an still keeps blowing out?

The fuel pump is burned out or a wire is shorting to ground. If the car was working fine then the fuse burned out then it is probably the fuel pump..

My 2002 dodge stratus keeps blowing the 20 amp fuse under the hood labeled start/fuel it only happens when I start the car and not everytime?

My 1999 dodge stratus did the same thing. Its a short in the starter solenoid its attached to the starter. all you have to do is change the starter.

98 stratus won't start

Check the fuel shutoff valve. to see if it is on. press the reset button to do this. if it stays on. The answer could be pinched wires (a short) from the fuse wiring back towards the shutoff valve. if the valve shuts off try checking for current with a test light. if no current . The valve is bad. it seems like a short or open circuit on the fuel system wiring.
