Question about 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

It stalls while driving, when it first started happening it would re-start after a few minutes- now it won't start for quite a long time. We were told it was the fuel pump by two different mechanics, and so we replaced both the pump and fuel filter and it did not make any difference with the stalling problem. We have also used fuel injector cleaner, manually cleaned the fuel lines and are relativly sure it is not an electrical problem.

When it stalls, can you hear the fuel pump running when you turn the key back on? If you can, then the pump is good and the wiring is OK. If not, check the pump relay in the power distribution center.
Did either of the mechanics that advised you actually do any testing? Did you do any testing?
Have you tested the crankshaft position sensor? It can give identical symptoms. To do proper testing you will need a chiltons manual (better than haynes especially for electronics) and a digital multi-meter.
Check the cps both when engine is working and when it has stalled. (cam sensor can do that as well as ignition coil but cps is most common.)

2006 VW GOLF TURBO DIESEL 1.9 STARTS UP GOES 5 TO 9 MILES STALLS WAIT 5 MINUTES GO AGAIN AND STALLS

Hi. It would be useful to get a code read and some live data from a decent diagnostic tool. There are quite a few possible causes including, pressure in tank - if the fuel tank can't vent pressure then a vacuum will eventually form stopping fuel getting to the engine, this will cause it to loose power and stall. Then after a few mins the pressure will drop and the process start again, easy test is when the car stalls remove filler cap - if that's the fault there will be an audible hiss and the car will start up again.

part blocked exhaust will have same problems but will more generally cause a lack of power and acceleration.
are there other symptoms? i.e only when conering or only when pulling off or stopping, engine light on/off. Jon

1992 pontiac boneville, keeps stalling

Have you chg.fuel filter and had a fuel pressure test done? Does it have spark after it stalls? Fuel pumps are a common problem, they work when cold get warmed up they quit, after a while quit all together. Do the fuel pressure test.

2001 dodge grand caravan stalls

Check the sensors on the throttle body. There is a sensor that controls air to fuel ratio. If that sensor is bad then the car will run and then stall out while in drive. I had the same problem when it was cold outside last winter. If you dont want to dish out the money without knowing if it is that part at fault or not then start the van pop the hood and located the throttle body. Place your hand on the sensors and give them a little shake and then make sure they are plugged in all the way. You could also turn the van off and unhook the sensor clean the connectors and plug it back in. That should do the trick and if it doesnt stall anymore then I would replace those sensors if I was you. One more thing. If your giving the sensors a tug while the car is running and you hear it going to stall you could located the gas pedal cable and give it a rev or two by hand so it doesnt stall out and turn off. By the way. You van isnt over heating at all is it?
