If you turn headlights on , do they work? If so the ignition switch on the steering column may be faulty or even loose connection, If no lights are on when you flip switch? Check batter voltage, If it has any there is an Inline fuse link near starter on the 1/4 thick red wire you should probe both sides with a test light to see if its bad.

How to bypass prndl sensor

Which part of ignition switch did you replace ? The key an lock cylinder or the electrical part behind the lock cylinder ? What year ,make an model vehicle do you have ? Most all newer vehicles from 1996 on have anti-theft systems . Is there a security light lit on your dash ? These same vehicles have a starter relay in the under hood fuse box that is turned on or energized by the PCM/ECM - engine computer . The switch the mechanic told you about is the transmission range selector or park neutral safety switch. Your best bet , rather then replacing parts is to take it to a ASE certified repair facility .

Won't crank or come out of park

  • Neutral safety switch sends a signal to the on-board computer to allow the engine to start and to engage the transmission
  • When not replaced, vehicle may experience no start and/or transmission will not shift out of park.

2006 chevy 3500 stuck in park

Do the brake lights work? If so, try turning ignition to on, no dash lights, and not to start and shifting to neutral then try to start it. If this allows it to start in neutral. Then it is the Transmission brake safety switch. If the brake lights don't work it's the brake light switch.

99 tahoe will only start when bypassed

Automatic or manual transmission ? tumbler sends voltage ??? What tumbler ? Ignition switch ,when it start position sends B+ voltage to the crank fuse in the insturment panel fuse box ,from there it goes transmission range switch,if in park or neutral it then goes through the relay pin 86 at the relay socket base . With the key in start you should see B+ voltage there . If not ,try moving the gear selector to neutral . if you still don't see B+ voltage , find the trans .range switch an check it.

No dash lights no start for 98 breeze

Power runs from battey to starter solenoid , from there to ignition switch and through neutral switch on the transmission shift lever. Tracking down shorts is easiest if you connect a 12v test light across the fuse clips and start disconnecting wires one at a time until the light goes out. But in your case I think a physical exam of the wires to the neutral switch may reveal your problem Good luck!

Car won't start, battery is fine. No indication of any problems, returning from funeral car won't turn. All lights, radio everything else works fine.

May be neutral safety switch, put into neutral and try to start. If that works have switch replaced its on the transmission. Even if it starts that way it wont take long before the car wont turn over in that position.

When i turn the key dash lights come on wont turn over

Sound like it might be the neutral safety switch solenoid going bad or sticking. This switch opens (denies current to) the starter circuit when the transmission is in any gear but Neutral or Park on automatic transmissions. If you find that you have to move the shifter away from park or neutral to get the car to start, it usually means that this switch needs adjustment.
