1998 Chevrolet 1 ton 4x4

I have a problem with my truck...... The mass air flow sensor is not reading anything. I have replaced it and hooked it to a machine that still shows a code P0102...... While the same computer was attached I clicked on the gauges to see what they were reading and the mass air flow sensor was not even registering a reading.... What can cuuse this??

Most likly you have an open short, a wire that has been broken. also make sure you don't have any corrosion on the plug this will cuase you to get no reading in the data stream. The only other thing i can think of is a bad PCM because you have nothing between teh 2 componants.
I would find the wire lead at the pcm and unplug it and do a continuity test on the wire to make sure its good.

The guy that owned the truck cut the catalytic converter off and the O2 sensors...... Could that cause the problem??

  • Dave Martin Jun 01, 2010

The cat isn't going to cuase too much problem but the O2 sensor will give you some problems, some people just think nothing of taking out a componant of the sensor system not thinking that oen will effect the other , I would strongly seguest you fins a way to install a new O2 sensor in the pipe, and you might still get an error code but atleast the rest of the system will be working proporly. they make a weld bung that you can drill a hole into the pipe and weld the bung on and it will allow you the thread the O2 sensor in.

Possible causes - Faulty mass air flow sensor
- Intake air leaks
- Dirty mass air flow sensor
- Dirty mass air filter
- Mass air flow sensor harness is open or shorted
- Mass air flow sensor circuit poor electrical connection

Before replacing the mass air flow sensor, try replacing the air filter and cleaning the air flow sensor with low compress air or mass air flow sensor cleaner. Reset code and drive vehicle. If the code comes back, it may be necessary to replaced the mass air flow sensor.

My chevy blazer 2000 ha a p0101 code changed the mass air flow sensor still does not want to accelerate

Hi there:
This code is set when the MAF (Mass Air Flow) meter is not sending the PCM the correct information. This can be due to a bad conection of the rubber intake hose between the MAF and the Throttle plate opening, a dirty air filter, a dirty mass air flow or a bad mass air flow.

Most programmer have you tie into the iat sensor in the mass air flow. this can cause the the iat sensor oto short out.

Hope helps.

Code P0102 shows up indicates Mass Air Flow Sensor. 1998 Olds Intrigue. It is like it has the hiccups and dies when slowing down and coming to a stop. Is replacing the Mass Air Flow Sensor likely going to...

Try this first. You can buy some MAF cleaner( not carb cleaner) and try to clean it off. Let it dry completely and don't probe the sensor with anything but spray from the cleaner. Change the air filter with a quality filter; the cheaper ones leave deposits on the sensor.

Check the catalytic convertor, may be stopped up. NEXT CHECK TO SEE IF THE DISTRIBUTOR SHAFT IS WORN OR THE ROTOR HAS A LITTLE PIN HOLE BURNED THRU.If OK, then clean the mass air flow sensor or replace it.

do not think alarm would cause this do you have a check engine light on?? there is a coolant temp sensor that reports to pcm it could be out of range you need to hook vehicle to a scanner and check the temp that is being reported by coolant sensor when cold and when hot also may want to look at mass air flow sensor also have you even thought of ignition module what symptoms you have sounds just like an ignition module problem

I have a trouble code on my scan tool that reads > mass air flow circuit low input. what can be causing this?

try starting the car, letting it idle for a minute and unplging you mass air flow sensor, if it runs better with it unplugged you can try taking it out and cleaning it real good, once in a while this will cure the problem and save you the hundred bucks or so it will cost to replace it.

98 chevy suburban, code reads mass air flow sensor low input. whats the problem? i have replaced the mass air flow sensor twice and i have no vacum leaks.

Check the wire leads and clean them before reconnecting the wire leads. It wouldn't hurt also to clean the MAF sensor with MAF cleaner, the code your getting is most common to the high performance oil base filters like K&N.

Good luck and this should help you resolve your MAF issues. Thank you for using Fixya

That computer thing you put on a car to find a problem detected a fuel air metering.....mass air flo sensor.......where would I find that sensor? thanks a ton

Are you wanting to know where the mass air flow sensor is? It is located on the intake tube right next to the air box. You will see a wire plugged into it.

Runs rough when cruising at 35-40 mph

try pulling off the air breather hose and look inside at the mass air flow sensor,it looks like a wire with a diode hooked to it incase you didnt know, see if there is any fuzz on it,sometimes the air filter will lose small pieces and the mass air flow sensor catches it.If that doesnt work then you may have a fuel problem, weak pressure, causing the mass air flow sensor to read too much air so it tricks the computer to adjust the issue.
