Resurfacing front rotors

I have a 2004 Honda Accord EX, 4 cyl. Well it is time for new front brakes. After pricing around, I was wondering if the rotors can be removed off the vehicle to turn. Also is the Honda disc pads good or should I go to an aftermarket company? I have over 70,000 miles on the car and never changed them yet.The back ones where changed already.

If you just need resurfacing and it isn't warped, they can be resurfaced but "on the vehicle", that is the way Honda designed them on this year Accord. The dealer is not the only place that has the equipment to do this, though.

Removing the front rotors is not a trivial task on this model. However, if your CV joints are clicking or the boots cracked and you plan on keeping the car for another 100k miles then consider replacing:
Axle oil seals
Wheel bearings
Flexible brake line
Upper and Lower Ball Joints
Tie rod ends
The biggest labor is removing the rotor as it is sandwiched between the sealed bearing and the hub, and the hub is pressed into the bearing with a hydraulic press. The bolts for the bearing are blocked by the CV joint. You have to detach at least one ball joint and remove the axle nut to gain access to the bolts that hold the wheel bearing on to remove the rotors.

Don't skimp on the rotors as many aftermarket ones will warp and with the labor involved in replacing them, you don't want to do it again.

    I got in the wrong forum by mistake, I was referring to a 1994 Accord. You have the easy rotors that come off easily and can be resurfaced off of the vehicle.

The original pad lasts longer than after market brands and fit better, put it Honda original pads and resurface the rotors.

Does it occur when you apply the brakes? A warped rotor will cause a shake or shutter (primarily felt in the steering wheel and brake pedal) when the brake are applied. Most shops no longer resurface brake rotors any longer because of the reduced prices for a new replacement rotor, but resurfacing a rotor will bring the rotor true (even no wobble) and take away any brake shimmy or shaking.

Tcs and brake light stays on after having new rear brakes put on and timing belt replaced.

Only a guess. Traction control system and ABS braking are tied in together so maybe
something was disturb when rear brakes were replaced. Make sure your brake fluid is

My 2004 LeSabre shakes bad when I brake at around 50 mph. I changed the front brake pads. How difficult is it to change the front rotors?

Actually, changing the front rotors is not that difficult and they are relatively in-expensive. Anytime you change the pads on the front of your vehicle i would recommend having the rotors resurfaced or replaced. Especially if you are getting a brake pedal pulse when applying the brakes. My 2004 R32 VW needs new brakes front and back. With parts, labor and all that, I was quoted around $1400. Sound about right?

sounds heavy to me. But what do you NEED? Some guys think that you have to replace the calipers and rotors every time. I prefer to replace what is needed. Meaning NOT calipers, unless they are leaking or sticking.

I do, however, often replace rotors, as it is slightly more than resurfacing rotors, but you get new, full material with new rotor. Heat dissipates best with more metal, so less fade, less pulsating..

Most of the time you just need brake pads, consider getting another shop, to inspect and report what you need.

Front end shimmys when applying brakes no loose parts brakes good could possibly be front bearings if so how do you get them out very rusty and bolts in poor shape

The rotors for the brakes are most likely warped,they need resurfacing ,the auto parts store can do this for you.

sounds as though the brake rotors are warped. if they are in otherwise good condition, a shop may be able to resurface them. however, you should have the brakes checked for overall condition, it may be time for a complete brake job. good luck!

I have a 1996 Honda Accord EX 4 cyl. warped rotors again!

this isa problem with hondas and they have not resolved or recalled the issue and most dealers are aware of it i would keep going the cheap route or call the dealer and ask if they have some type of warranty or guarantee on them or find a brake shop that does

Haynes or Chilton manual will help out. If the inner and outer brake pads are wearing evenly, (one or more isn't worn much more than the others) and you've gone a lot of miles since the last brake job, you can probably get by with new brake pads, and having the brake rotors 'cut' (or also called 'turn' the rotors). This is a process done at a major parts store that basically grinds the front and back of the rotor to remove imperfections, grooves, etc. so the rotor is perfectly smooth. Skipping this can result in pulsating brakes (you feel the pulsating in the brake pedal). The 'shop' that resurfaces the rotor will measure it to make sure it's thick enough to grind down some more. Once it wears down to a certain point, the rotor is thrown out for safety. Depending on the make and model, it is sometimes cheaper to buy a new rotor. I have a GM car, the rotors cost $12 each, Having them 'cut' (the old ones) costs $15 at a local parts store. If brakes are not wearing out at the same time, your brake caliper(s) may need to be replaced. (Brake cylinders, if you have drum brakes). ALWAYS bleed the brake system when you do a brake job, even if you don't open any brake lines. Old fluid absorbs moisture (whenever the cap is opened to check or add fluid) and gets contaminated over time. It'll ruin your calipers and brake cylinders, which in turn will ruin your brake shoes, pads, and rotors, drums. Start at the wheel farthest away from the master cylinder, working to the one closest last. Bleed enough fluid out so that you have replaced all the old. Countrycurt0

What type of pads are you guys using? The number one complaint on cars is brake noise. One of the best solutions is to use quality ceramic pads. You may have cailpers sticking. If you have scorch marks on rotors or pulsation in pedal after resurfacing rotors, this is a good indication.
