Question about 1998 Plymouth Breeze

Smoke under the hood

Okay so I just bought a Very nice 1998 Plymouth Breeze (2.4 liter DOHC) from my uncle for $500 and there is nothing visibly wrong with it, although if i drive it for mor than 10 minutes or so and i shut it off you can see smoke coming from under the hood and if you look at the engine it is coming from somewhere behind the sparkplug hoses all come together into a metal box (not the engine block itself) but it runs great, there are no sounds coming from it and all the gauges are reading fine.

p.s. around the oil cap sometimes oil slowly pools there for some reason. Please let me know what the problem is so i dont loose my new car. Thank you.

They're was a recall on the plymouth breeze. had the same problem. It was the power steering hose. I did not catch in time the engine caught fire. And of course Chrysler would not do anything about it since I purchased from some one else, you might want to check this.

Solution 2 is correct - we've just replaced the two power steering fluid hoses on my daughter's 98 breeze. Design defect in that the fluid pump hose wraps around the engine, heats up and melts at critical joints/bends. High cost to repair (~$400).

Broken Belt under the 1998 Plymouth Breeze 2.4L DOHC 4 Cyl. engine.

Sounds like you have a broken belt that drives the alternator, water pump and maybe the power steering depending on engine type and size. Have the belt replaced before driving car as if you overheat the engine you could end up with major engine damage. The belt on the 2.4 litre engine is manually adjusted with a bolt on the alternator housing. To install this belt yourself maybe difficult if you do not know the routing of the belt around the number of pulleys involved. get help.
