First thing I would check would be the batery itself. You may have shorted the battery out completely.

I corrected the jumper cables and the starter just clicked when I tried to start the van. Then I hooked up a battery charger and it drew a medium charge. I don't think the battery is bad, but wondering if I shorted the starter or diodes in the alternate,

It is possible that did occur but would try charging the battery for awhile and try starting after battery has a full charge for sure.I would also completely disconnect the battery cables for charging the battery in this situation to prevent any possbility of further damage.

Currently I have the battery disconnected and charging. I'll let you know this evening if it starts on a full change. Thanks

After recharging the battery the car started. Thanks for all your help.

You will have to take it to the Dealer. You may have burnt out or the "Control Module" needs to be replaced or reprogrammed. Make sure the battery has not reversed polarity also.

Saturn jumper cables hooked up backwards

Try charging the battery more. Even though your lights may come one, starting a vehicle requires massive amounts of amperage from the batter. It's possible that your jumper cables aren't a thick enough guage to supply enough power as well. Sometimes the vehicle you're jumping from might not have enough power to support your vehicle's starting power requirements.

Connecting jumper cables the wrong wat around most likely has damaged electronic components such as a radio and computer.
Check the fuse box and replace any blown fuses.
If you still have problems then get an auto electrician to fix your car.

2009 corolla hooked up jumper cable backwards, car won't start

TAKE OF BOTH CABLES AND GROUND THEM TOGETHER FOR 30 OR SO MINUTES, THIS WILL RESET THE CARS MEMORY, TEST VOLTAGE ON BATTERY WITH VOLT METER & IF IT IS BELOW 12.31V THEN CHARGE THE BATTERY , ONCE BATTERY CHARGED HOOK UP BATTERY LEADS (TO RIGHT TERMINALS) & ATTEMPT TO START CAR, IF ALL YOU GET IS A CLICK THEN LOCATE THE STARTER MOTOR & GIVE IT A FIRM WHACK WITH A HAMMER (SERIOUSLY) THIS WILL FREE UP THE STARTER & WILL ALLOW THE CAR TO CRANK

The cart wont click over dont know anything bout cars so i need to find out if my starter or my alternator went out and sure my battery i need a new one because the car used to click over till we hooked up...

First if the jumper cables were hooked up backwards you could have killed your battery, which was probably dead to begin with. Get a new one then try and start. If it doesnt look more into the ignition switch than the starter. Alternator has nothing to do with starting, it could be bad and not charging the battery but will not cause your car not to start.

No start... tried jumpin the car and the relay next to the battery that controls the alternater, rad fan, and 2 other components started smoking before I tried to start the car from a jump start

It sounds like you hooked the battery (jumper) cables up backwards. There is probably quite a bit of damage including possibly damaged computer modules.
