The valve seldom fails. The lines that are connected to it fill with carbon and the valve opens and flow of exhaust doesn't happen. The senser is in the egr tube and it fails more the the valve even clogging up. EXUP senser, has two vacume lines and a 3 wire electrical connecter. The hoses break and come off the tube they connect wo gets clogged, hook a piece of hose to each one and blow though, shoulld blow easy. if bothe lines blow though easy and the hoses are good, the car is running smoothly at idel and the check engine light can be reset and drive the car and the light comes back on and has the same code but runs smoothly all the time replace the senser reset the computer and away you go

Engine Malfunction Light...drives at reduced 40kmph

Oh you can drive it, but drive it to the shop and have the EGR(Exhaust Gas Recirculation)valve replaced. That is what's causing your lack of power. It has to work in conjunction with all other emission control systems and once it' goes bad the engine will have no power but seams to work fine otherwise. Change the EGR valve.

Egr valve faults

Yes, you need to reset the codes by disconnecting the battery negative terminal for about 15-20 minutes with the ignition key ON. Turn OFF the key, connect the cable again and turn the key. The CEL will turn off.

The check engine light is on, the EGR valve has been replaced, code P0401 appears on diagnostic. The engine is 4 cyl DOHC 2 wd. slight exhaust odor at times in vehicle.

Are you reset the stored codes there? The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve controls an engine's emission of smog-causing nitrous oxides, or NOx. Its job is to route a portion of the exhaust gases back into the intake manifold. That lowers combustion temperature to below 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit - the temperature at which NOx gases form.

EGR flow is controlled by the engine's computer, which opens or closes the valve as needed. The EGR system is, for the most part, in the "out of sight, out of mind" category, and typical doesn't require regular maintenance. But if it gets clogged with carbon deposits, you'll see your "check engine" light come on, and a code (perhaps P0401 or P0402 or P0403) will show that there is insufficient flow. That typically results from a vehicle being driven persistently on short trips that don't allow the engine to fully warm up. Flow problems also can be caused by carbon buildup due to failure to change the oil frequently enough.

A clogged EGR valve not only results in higher emissions, it can affect fuel economy and cause rough idling - even serious engine damage. Valves can usually be cleaned, but replacement is often recommended.

About thie generic fault code, I suggtes check this description and tips for solution information: DTC-P0401-Tests (keep in midn that this code applied for alot brands, Hyundai included).

Keep us updated.

Random missfire all cylinders 1996 honda civic sohc

Check the EGR valve system. Honda's are prone to the exhaust supply to the EGR valve getting clogged with carbon at the valve port entrance. A clogged EGR valve can cause the engine combustion temperature to climb and then for pre-ignition miss-fire events to become common. The EGR is located inside the elbow of the air filter pipe at the back of the engine on the left beneath the coil. Anything you can temporarily remove to provide access the better. The EGR valve has two bolts, an electrical connector and a vacuum line attached to its top. Take it off and give it a really good clean, carburettor or brake cleaner works well in conjunction with cloths and brushes. Once cleaned like new replace everything including the vacuum line and electrical connector.

Service engine light comes on the code is 32 have any idea

DTC code 32 is the EGR valve failure, check the vacuum hose and electrical connection to the EGR. remove the EGR and clean it with carb cleaner. After reinstalling the EGR and if the check engine light still on, you may have to replace the EGR valve. Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted. Be glad to help.

Yes, take it back. The might of replaced the Egr valve to turn off the light. Don't let them charge you for retesting it, that's why you took it in in the first place.

2000 Honda Accord EGR Valve Error P0401

-after you change the part you have to reset/clear the code

-this can be done by either:
(1) using the OBD2 code reader that Autozone used OR since option 2 (below) is very quick
(2) disconnecting the battery for about 30 seconds (this will delete all codes/radio presets/etc) but it will also clear the 'check engine' code
-this is what I do AFTER i write down my radio station presets :)

-hopefully the new EGR valve resolves your issue after you CLEAR the code
...but that code just means a an insufficient amount of Exhaust Gas recirculation (pressure difference) used to keep the emissions in check
-if it comes back, then there are a few other fixes to try also

-let me know if you need further assistance
-please remember to rate me `fix-ya`if it works
