Need replace it; the switch is on the Transfer Case.

In order to get the correct switch you need to determine what type of transfer case you have. You can do this by crawling under the vehicle near the middle and look for a small round metal tag mounted on the back side of the transfer case. Once you have that number (new process type 231, 242, 249...). If your local jeep dealer is of a friendly sort you may even be able to avoid all the crawling around and just tell the parts manager your VIN# and he will be able to tell you what type transfer case you have - provided that it is the factory installed original.

Hope helps.

I just fixed the same problem with my own GC Laredo - and it WAS a dealer part (in my case). In order to get the correct switch you need to determine what type of transfer case you have. You can do this by crawling under the vehicle near the middle and look for a small round metal tag mounted on the back side of the transfer case. Once you have that number (new process type 231, 242, 249...) you can order the correct part. If your local jeep dealer is of a friendly sort you may even be able to avoid all the crawling around and just tell the parts manager your VIN# and he will be able to tell you what type transfer case you have - provided that it is the factory installed original.
I almost slugged my regular parts man for calling me a liar and trying to sell me the wrong part after I called the dealer AND crawled underneath for a visual confirmation of the type of case I had.

Tires changed and now 4wd lock flashing

Did you have same size tires put on ? With the light flashing there is a DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code stored , have to have diagnostic tool hooked up . That's the only way your going find out what the problem is .

Service 4 wheel light comes on, put it in four wheel works fine, what usually needs to be serviced on it so i can do it myself so i dont have to pay the outrages fee's at the dealership

There is a common problem with false "service 4WD" messages. The PCM or FDCM (final drive control module) may need to be updated. Also make sure that when you switch into 4WD, it is ACTUALLY IN 4WD. If everything appears to be working correctly, but there is still a message, there is one thing you can try:
You can check the transfer case actuator connector. It is the only electrical connector on the transfer case and is located underneath the center of the vehicle towards the driver side. Disconnect it (Carefully! The connector here has a tendency to seize into place. You don't want to break it or the tabs.) and check the wiring for dirt and debris around the connector. Also check for corrosion (green or white crusty stuff) on the metal connector terminals.
One other problem I have encountered was the axle shift solenoid in the front differential. The wires were broken inside the differential assembly. However, in this case the 4WD system was not functioning properly.

So, your question being what usually needs to be serviced, the answer is one or more control modules probably need to be flashed (updated). This obviously requires you to go to a dealership. However, you can visually check your transfer case connector to see if there are any potential wiring issues involved. Again, BE CAREFUL when disconnecting and reconnecting this component.

Hope this helps!

Lights for 4WD selector not on

I had this happen on my chev as well a couple of times, once it was the solenoid switch for the automatic transfer case. Another time the ground wire for the switch was corroded and shorting out. There is a new software updgrade available as well that might fix if this is a recurring issue.

Message center states service 4wd

not sure about the fuel gauge, but I am willing to bet you need a new 4wd switch. This is pretty common on these trucks.

The fuel thing might be a bad cluster. This is also a common problem on the gm vehicles. I have 2 silverados, an impala and a malibu and they all have had funky problems with the clusters.
