Question about 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

1 Answer

Clicking noise in front, under car.

I have a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. There is an irratating clicking noise that seems to be coming from front and underneath car. Usually when I am going slow it can be heard easily. I've already had wheels and rims checked, no problems. Could it be the axle?

Steering knuckle/CV joint....could be the spindle bearings also.

The easiest way to find out is to jack the front of the vehicle up off the ground. Sit in front of one of the tires. Reach out with your arms to the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock position and grab the tire. Now, try to wiggle it side to side. There should be almost no play. If it wiggles or is sloppy....cv joints.

It's not the tires though as you have already posted.

How did it go? Did you check the give on the tires???

  • mgaray007 Jun 03, 2010

The give on the tires is okay. It's not quite making the loud "pounding" noise that happens when cv joints are bad, but maybe its going bad. Hope not, this is expensive. I'll have the bearings checked out next. Thanks for your help.

88 Nissan Pathfinder heard a loud popping noise under the front suspension of the car while driving and then a winding down noise as i slowed down

It could be a blown seal or some messed up bearings on the hub. Take it to a mechanic and DRIVE CAREFULLY! The wheel could literally come off it the bearings aren't working and overheat!

If u have hub caps remove them and see if the noise goes away.. Sometimes the hub caps aren't tight enough to the rim and move a little causing the clicking.
