Best suggestion would be to put a fuel pressure gauge on and and see what the fuel pressure reads when cycling the key off and on pressure should be 37 to 43 any less then this suspect the fuel pump or an electrical connection to pump. When it acts up and you can not hear the pump running try tapping on the fuel tank.If vehicle starts after that suspect the fuel pump.

I have a 1988 Oldsmoble cutlass supreme gt and it wont start unless i spray starter fluid in the carbuerator.

Sounds like you are not getting any gas to the carb. Turn the key one click with radio off but don't try to start the car and listen for a humming sound coming from the rear of the car (gas tank area). You are listening to hear for the fuel pump. If you don't hear any humming then either the fuel pump relay is shot (cheapest fix) or the fuel pump is shot.

05 ford five hundred wont turn over thinking its the fuel pump or maybe the relay

try banging on the fuel tank sometimes that could make the fuel pump work for a bit, you cant 100 percent rule out a bad fuel pump;you may have a better idea if it starts. good luck

Doesnt start but turns over

there could be a couple of things that could be wrong with your car first of all saturns are bad for the ignition switchs going bad, another thing is the fuel pump could have went out they will go out without warning. The way to check the fuel pump is to go to the gas cap and remove it and put your ear down to the nozzle and have someone turn the key to the on position and listen 4 a humming sound if you dont hear no humming sound most definitely your fuel pump is out. If you do hear a humming sound your fuel pump is working like it suppose to. Then you will have to have the key switch checked by a dealer to see if the switch needs replaced. hope this helped

My car Truck wont start up. The dont hear the pump

first check all fuses and relay to fuel pump. have someone turn the key to on, and listen for a humming noise at tank.I do not believe there is a reset for pump. call any auto parts store and they should be able to tell you. or call a dealer and ask to speak to service,

Car wont start. turns over but wont catch.

The fuel pumpmay have failed. Try having someone turn the key to the ON position while you listen under the car near the fuel tank for the fuel pumo to hum. If it does not, or it sounds like it is grinding, then it may have failed. A pressure test with a gauge would be need to check for proper pressure.

the switch is supose to be in the down position. push the switch back down get in car and close all windows and turn key to on position and lisen for the fuel pump to run for a couple seconds sounds like a low hum that only last for 2 to 3 seconds if you dont hear this then the fuel pump is bad

1998 Jeep Cherokee won't start?

I need to confirm some information. The engine is rotating, just not starting, right? When you put the key into the "on" position, do you hear the fuel pump prime itself? You'll hear a hum sound for a couple of seconds. If not, spray some starting fluid into the throttle body and see if the engine starts. If it does start with the starting fluid, then shuts off again, the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay is bad. I'd change the relay first, if that doesn't help, the fuel pump is bad.
