Replace the throttle position sensor in a 97 Monte Carlo

I need to know how to replace the throttle position sensor in a 1997 Monte Carlo Z34. This is for a friend and neither of us have a manual on the car. I have never owned one so don't know where to start, the owner is a recent High School grad so doesnt have the money for a auto shop repair.

Manual Solution for 1998 Monte Carlo z34:

Pull down interior design near button, it's all velcro underneath. The motor is silver and on the bottom of it, there is a white colored knob, that has a slot for a screwdriver. I believe to close it is counterclockwise. For this you will need VERY small screwdriver, and requires much force with a small one.

I poked a hole through the interior, and used a longer screwdriver. More torque and less pain on hands. Poking a hole sounds weird, but to be honest, it won't be noticed much.

SOURCE: 97 monte carlo will not start

if you remove the battery and charge it than reinstall (make shore all lighting and non essentals are off) and if the car runs for awhile then the problem most likely is with the alternator

My 1997 monte carlo z34 3.4 engin is holding high rpms

I had a similar problem on a 3.4 Lumina Z34. It was a leaking intake gasket. Be careful with the plastic vaccumn lines as they will get brittle.
