An air leak would give bad consumption so would a dirty air filter and lots more besides...use a thin plastic pipe, one end touching your ear the other wandering around, finding the whistle,(stethoscope) to locate air leaks.plug your other ear with cotton wool makes it even easier.
poor fuel consumtion could be many things,so start with the cheapest remedy first.....

Have a 2001 bayloner throphey how much fuel it holds

Are you sure you don't have a 2001 Bayliner Trophy? ;>)

7 gallons, but they come in sizes 17 feet to 31 feet and 125HP to 225HP.

2001 Bayliner Trophy Asking Price: $13,999 OR BEST OFFER Condition: Good. Description Location: Ridgewood, New York Seller's Notes: AWESOME BOAT!! Body Style: Power Boat Length: 21 Hull: FIBERGLASS Class: FISH/SKI BOAT Engine: 2010 Hyundai 150 # Engines: one Fuel Capacity: seven gallons Horsepower: 150 VIN: Request the VIN Seller's Comments Great boat, Lots of storage, 270 hours on motor, Well maintained, Reliable, Great for the lake, Depth/Fish/GPS System, Well equipped, Live well, Pump, Anchor, Seats four, Lots of cabin room, Equipped with toilet.

Easiest way is to run it dry with a 1 gallon portable can on board. Stay close to the marina until main tank runs out, top up with the gallon can, and then go to the marina and fill it up. Whatever it takes minus 1 gallon is the capacity. Then refill that gallon can and log how many miles you do on a full tank. I carry 2 x 6 gallon tanks, I know one tank will take my 95 kilometres (I am in Canada)

Red portable fuel marine tanks hold 6 gallons. The size is marked on it. If you have a fixed tank, they are usually 20 gallons, but to be sure use my method and a fill.

Burning oil ,no leaks or smoke

how many miles?
can be bad rings.
or bad valve seals.
or both.
do a compression test then a leak down test, and bingo the answer.
if both pass, the valve seals are bad.
if not rings are bad, if the oil test for compression fails the valves them selves are bad, if the teaspoon of oil test , passes the rings are shot.
read up on all compression tests. using google, or by any car engine book, one that tells you how to test for this.

The leak down test, can even tell you which direction the leak happens
using a rubber hose to your ear.
i can hear air leak to crankcase, valve cover oil filler, oil dip stick hole, and to intake plenum and even hear it at exhaust ports. sure can.

one the oil control rings on old engines can stick down and be
near useless. stuck in the lands. seen many like that.

Id use the 2 gauge to judge engine condition,
if bad, its hopeless. (bottom end bad)
if good, all tests. then the valve seals are bad.
there is a way to change them head on car.
using shop air , or other wild tricks.

Burning gas

oxygen sensor faulty, engine out of time, crank or camshaft sensor.

Bad Gas Mileage Causes:
  • Having bad oxygen sensors and air filters can reduce your gas mileage by up to 20%. The oxygen sensors help keep the proper mixture of air and fuel, and having this off balance can be inefficient. The air filters can get clogged and simply need to be unclogged to fix the problem. Air filters need to be cleaned so that the engine can work at its peak performance.
  • Your spark plugs are responsible for sparking combustion in your engine. If they misfire, or are working poorly, this can effect your gas mileage in a negative way.
  • Having bad fuel injectors can cause bad mileage. This is because the fuel injectors are responsible for putting fuel into the engine. If there is a leak of some sort, then less fuel will make it to the engine, and then in turn make it run less efficiently.
  • Having your air conditioner on causes a lot of gas to be wasted in powering the system. If you can, turn off the air conditioner, and ride with your windows open. At higher speed, close the windows though to reduce drag.
  • A common cause of bad mileage is your own driving habits. If you are an aggressive driver, likely you accelerate to quickly. This causes more fuel to be used, and will use up more gas than you need. Same goes for revving your engine. It may sound cool, but it uses up gas for going nowhere.
  • Many people waste gas by idling. Idling is when you have your engine on, but you are parked and not moving. Common places where this occurs is when you are trying to warm up your car in the winter, or while you are waiting to pick someone up. Your car really doesn't need more than 30 seconds to warm up the engine. When it comes to waiting for someone, turn your car off or put it into neutral. Since you aren't moving, you might as well save gas and the environment.
  • The type of motor oil that you are using can also affect your gas mileage up to 12%. You want to use motor oils that are high in reducing friction. Either use asynthetic oil or the oil that the car's manual recommends.
  • The more revolutions per minute you make your engine do, the more gas you will use. The easy way to combat this is to just drive slower. Driving the speed limit of 55 miles per hour is much more fuel efficient than driving at 60, 65, 70, etc miles per hour.

My 1997 town car is burning to much fuel not leaking it but burning it i can smell the gas when driving it

It can be several things. The engine automatically sets to a RICH mode for cold starts. It will stay in RICH until a temperature sensor warms up. There are sometimes 2 sensors with one for the dash and the other for the engine controls.
Next would be a faulty fuel pressure regulator keeping the pressure too high. Or dirty fuel injectors failing to close properly.
Finally, air leaks in the intake manifold will make the O2 sensors dump fuel to restore the fuel ratio. Check with water spray bottle on intake seams while engine is running.

an air leak would weaken the mix of fuel to air so giving you better fuel efficiency but a poor power output.
was my last answer not to your liking, re **** fuel consumption on all fiat/alpha cars.but it is true, ask any owner........14.7 average mpg.......£205 road tax.....(tax it for a year and quadruple its value...)

We have a 1990 Honda civic LX 5 speed. 4 door. We are getting about 20 miles to a gallon. Check engine light comes on after a few minutes of running. There is a strong exhaust smell at idle and black...

Try to give it a little time because you just did some work, it may need to burn out... but black smoke is an oil burning problem. even though the car will still run you dont want this problem because if oil is burning in your engine, it means oil is getting where it does not need to be witch HOPEFULLY, is just a gasket but you are not just burning fuel so it may be affecting your gas mileage!. it sounds like old gaskets!? maybe? gaskets are a **** to replace especially in a civic, and they are everywhere! i know i just took the whole engine apart and put it back together again in a 95.

As far as the heavy exhaust smell... may be a leak or crack in the manifold!

And as far as your sensors and dash lights go, save your money and dont replace any more! especially if you smell a problem and are getting only 20 miles to a gallon (especially in a honda) because the sensors are probably right!

How many gallons per hour does this car lose?

hey
at the begging u should clarify how many gallon u used.
112 miles at 28 miles per gallon --> 4 gallons burned (112/28)
So that means we leaked 11 - 4 = 7 gallons

Now figure out how long the car was driving.
112 miles at 64 miles per hour --> 1.75 hours

So, leak was at a rate of 7 gallons in 1.75 hours
7/1.75 = 4 gallons per hour leaked.
