If u want a second opinion most auto stores such as auto zone / advanced auto will scan ur vehicle for free and the trouble code will tell u what component ,sensor or area of vehicle that is causing ur problem also with ur vehicle running u can feel for restriction in exhaust if cat is clogging

You must have v-6 or v-8 engine , bank determents the side of the engine and on yours bank 2 is the passenger side, an sensor 1 denotes before the catalytic converter .You vehicle has three o2 sensors ,two before the cat an one after .Up stream means before catalytic converter. / downstream after the catalytic converter .

My Service engine like is on the troubleshooting code is p0420, and my truck throttles down then revs back up win in park. Whats my problem

Hi,
The code indicates a fault detected in the catalytic converter (bank1). It could just be an oxygen sensor, but if your truck is over 6-7 years old, I would say you need to replace the converter. You could try a new upstream O2 sensor on the left cylinder bank manifold first, it will be much cheaper if that would be the cause.....Mike

Another o2 sensor ? bank 2 is the downstream but if you were looking at the front of the car what would sensor 2 be. is it right or left?

The "bank" references which side of the engine the O2 sensor is on. The "sensor" references if the O2 sensor is before the cat or after the cat.

Bank 1 is the same side of the engine as the number one cylinder. Bank 2 is the other side of the engine.

Sensor 1 is before the catalytic convert and sensor 2 is after the catalytic converter.

So bank 2 sensor 2 is the O2 sensor on the side of the engine opposite the number one cylinder and after the catalytic converter.

Hi, I need to take my 2001 Mazda 626 4cyln for SMOG check in CA. But its check engine light is on, diagnosed as code P0421. Appreciate your help to fix this problem, or just to pass the check. Thank you.

CODE P0421. DEFINITION-CATALYST EFFICIENCY LOW-BANK 1. EXPLANATION-THE OXYGEN SENSORS MONITOR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS ABILITY TO STORE OXYGEN. PROBLEM CAUSES- 1. CATALYTIC CONVERTER DEFECTIVE (FAILURE POSSIBLY DUE TO #2,3, OR 4) 2. ENGINE MISFIRE OR RUNNING CONDITION. 3. LARGE VACCUM LEAK 4. ENGINE OIL LEAKAGE INTO EXHAUST-VALVE GUIDE SEALS, PISTON RINGS. THE PCM HAS DETERMINED THAT THE WARM UP CATALYST EFFICIENCY FOR BANK 1 IS BELOW TRESHOLD FOR THE CURRENT ENGINE OPERATING CONDITION. (BANK 1 IDENTIFIES THE LOCATION OF CYLINDER #1, WHILE BANK 2 IDENTIFIES THE CYLINDERS ON THE OPPOSITE BANK).

replace O2 sensors, or your Catalytic Converter.

The check engine light is on and I brought the 2002 tundra to the dealer and they said it was the o2 sensor on the 2nd block. I would like to know the location of where it is so I could do it myself.

if its o2 bank 2 its the sensor after the catalytic converter bank 1 is in front of catalytic converter towards engine0-- the o2 sensors are screwed into the exhaust pipe follow the pipe from engine back under vehicle and will see both

Where is the bank 2 sensor 1 located.

Oxygen sensors are always numbered like this:

Bank 1 sensor 1
Bank 2 sensor 1
Bank 1 sensor 2
Bank 2 sensor 2

some manufacturers use a kind of shorthand that reads different, but means the same thing:
Sensor 1/1 or O2s 1/1
Sensor 2/1 or O2s 2/1
Sensor 1/2 or O2s 1/2
Sensor 2/2 or O2s 2/2

Bank 1 is always the side of the engine where cylinder number 1 is located and, of coarse, Bank 2 is the opposite side.
On a 4 cylinder engine, there is only 1 bank and it is always referred to as Bank 1.

Sensor 1 is always the upstream sensor (The one located BEFORE the catalytic converter)
Sensor 2 is always the downstream sensor (the one that is located AFTER the catalytic converter.

Most GM engines have #1 cylinder located on the left bank, (or Driver's Side) of the engine,

So, the answer to your question would be that you are looking for the sensor located before the catalytic converter on the right (or Passenger Side) of the truck.

How do I fix a bank2, 02 sensor?

just a quick note: bank 2 is LEFT side (drivers) on a rear wheel drive vehicle ,on front wheel drive vehicles it would be the front side when looking down from the front of the vehicle ,Sensor 2 is after the cat converter! if you replace that sensor, clear the codes or have someone clear them for you and you should be all set.
the 2 of bank 2 is the 2nd oxygen sensor that is located after the catalytic converter.usually closer to the tailend of the header pipe.
The sensor I believe you are looking for is in the exhaust pipe or exhaust manifold, usually the right bank which is on the right side of the car (driver is left), or close to the firewall if engine is mounted sideways. Some cars are equipped with a sensor behind the catalytic converter that tells the computer the HEALTH of the converter only. It has nothing to do with running of the engine per say.
Bank 1 is which ever side has cylinder 1. It could be left or right. Bank 2 would be the other side. Bank 1 sensor 1 would be before the catalytic converter. Bank 1 sensor 2 would be after the converter. The same applies with bank 2.

Check engine light is on...bank 1 sensor1 oxygen sensor

if u have one oxygen sensor then u need to take a deep look at the bottom of ur car it will be somewhere at the Exhaust pipe if u have a catalytic converter then u will have two oxygen sensors one before the catalytic converter & the other will be after the catalytic converter. Note: the catalytic converter is located at after a little bit of beginning in Exhaust pipe.

did you use oem catalytic converters????? the aftermarket converters break down very fast. thats why they are cheap. we have to replace them all the time due to bad catalytic converters.
