Hi,

A very common problem for Dodge on this issue is the Brake Light Switch. It has three internal switches controlling various functions of the vehicle. It's main function is to control operation of the vehicle's brake lamps. Other functions include speed control deactivation, brake sense for the antilock brake system and brake sense for the brake transmission shift interlock.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Hmm maybe a stuck clutch in the transmission.. ok,, firstly you have to put the handbrake down,, and rock the car back and forth so that you can get it into neutral,.,, if it starts shifting there your good if not then while in neutral,, push the car foward till it starts rolling,, start it and pull the shifter into drive as soon as it does.. that shoul snap it clean.. but the problem is why it's stuck,,

remove the lever handle which you use to push the button to change the grers,, you will notice a rod in it,, push its down,, pull it up until the geear starts turning....
try this if not then try the above..

I have a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan that will not shift out of park. The shifter moves perfectly and it goes into Rev, nuet and drive perfectly but it will not release the park. What could cause that?

Do you feel the shifter click when shifting or is it smooth. Clicking would be an internal transmission problem. Smooth would be a broken shifter cable.

Check your brake lights, if the system doesn't get a brake lights on signal it will not release park, it is called the park lock system.

2004 dodge grand caravan, will not roll over at all, shift indicator light says it is in reverse, will not register park or neutral.

The mode switch(neutral safety) in the transmission is bad,This will require valve body removal and draining of the transmission. Will walk you through it if you want to try.

It sounds like you have a torque convertor issue. But you will need to take it to a shop to be 100% certain.

My 2001 dodge caravan isn't shifting into overdrive.. and is hard to shift from park to drive and to reverse. any ideas?

The transmission is probably shot. the only other thing could be dirty linkage if you mean "hard" as in hard to move the shift lever. The first thing I would do is get a tranny fluid and filter change.

2007 dodge caravan, won't start at first. I leave it and fiddle with the gear shift and finally it starts. Runs no problem, shut it off and it restarts. Noticed that the gear shift light shows reverse when...

Sounds like the shifter linkage needs adjusted. There is a neutral saftey switch that prevents the car from being started in any foward or reverse gear. If the shifter linkage is out of adjustment, the neutral safety switch will give you starting problems.
