Question about 1992 BMW 3 Series

We recently changed the timing chain of my BMW 740i m60 engine, and we dont know how to install and reset the timing chain, can you give us a diagram or step by step instruction in installing the timing chain, thank you.

    First, you must slap yourself repeatedly for even considering such an undertaking . I Perform this task all the time @ my shop. Its not easy, And in fact its impossible without using Bmw Specialty tools, go to your local BMW dealership

White smoke means a coolant leak, check it and repair before to overheating your engine.

Need to add coolant to my bmw 750li. What type and in what ratio should I mix with water?

I am writing to tell you about a new BREAKTHROUGH method for repairing a leaking Coolant Transfer Pipe in the BMW N62 V8 engine block using the BimmerFix Stint. The N62 V8 is a popular BMW engine that was used from 2002 thru 2010, in such fabulous vehicles as the BMW 735i, 740i, 745i, 750i & Li, 645Ci, 650i, 540i, 545i, 550i, and the X5 SUV.


Located deep inside of this BMW N62 engine is a Coolant Transfer Pipe, which carries antifreeze from the Water Pump to cooling chambers within the engine. However, the Front Seal on this Cooling Tube can fail in as little as 40,000 miles, and start leaking antifreeze from the engine block, through a weep hole in the Timing Chain Cover. When this happens, the car will lose antifreeze from the engine, and the engine will overheat.


In the past, this has been a very expensive repair because it required disassembly of the engine, in order to access the leaking Cooling Pipe Seal. The original method of replacing the crossover Coolant Transfer Pipe required the removal of the Timing Chain Cover. This repair could cost $6,000 or more at the BMW Dealer.


Then, an after-market Collapsible Coolant Pipe was developed to save time and money on this repair. This Collapsible Coolant Pipe method involves removing the Intake Manifold, cutting out the old Coolant Pipe and installing the after-market Collapsible Coolant Pipe. But even this method required many hours of shop labor and expensive parts and supplies. The repair bill for this method can still cost between $1,500.00 and $2,500.00 to remove the Intake Manifold, cut out the old Coolant Pipe and install the new Collapsible Coolant Pipe.

How to setup the timing chain for BMW


The sadder thing is you have a 740. align both cam pulley per the book or where you marked them before you took the chain off. They're marked in relation to top dead center of the #1 cylinder and crankshaft.

Didn't do that beforehand.......uh oh. Tow it to dealer, bring one wheelbarrow full of fresh cash. Drive away in about 6 hours.

I have a problem with my bmw its e32 740i m60, we replaced the timing chain and suddenly my mechanic forgot the position and we don't know how to do it. can you help me how to install my timing chain in...


if you dont see any timing marks.remove the valve cover and spark plugs,on the number one piston,insert a thin stick until you feel the stik is bumping in to the piston.then slowly rotate the main pulley untill your stik reaches the top.thats top dead center.next,the camshaft,rotate thee camshaft till the cam lobes of the number four intake and exaust rockerarm reaches on top.now check the timing marks.

Bmw 745i 2003 water leaks out from front of motor and it's not the water pump or any hoses , I changed water pump and gaskets. the water flows out as soon as I fill tank,it's behind the crank pully


I had this same problem in my 02 745i... It's leaking from the internal coolant pipe... a $.05 rubber ring is going to cost you 3-5k easily.

You need to replace your hyd chain tensioner, that is your timeing chain tensioner located in the front of the engine.

Does a 1993 BMW 318i have a timing belt or a timing chain? I just bought this BMW and the previous owner did not know whether or not the timing belt was changed. I've heard that if the timing belt goes out...


Hi some of them have a belt but yours being the M43 engine is a chain, the only thing to listen for with them is chain slap or an rattling around the chain area, a bit of research on the M43 engine also shows that the chain should be changed after 100000 miles as they become weak, Just joined here and found this unsolved i know its a bit late but hope the extra info helps
