There are small sleeve inserts in the alternator bracket the tighten up when the bolts are tightened. you probably just need to pry on the alternator a bit to get it out. when it is out, see if you tap the sleeves back a bit with a small hammer, it will make it alot easier to install the new alternator and they will tighten up again when you tighten the bolts. use a bit of sandpaper to clean them and shorten them up a bit if you cant tap them back. good luck!

How do I replace the passenger side headlight on a 1995 GMC Safari?

Open up the hood and as you look at the light from above you will see a couple of screws/bolts holding the whole assembly in. Remove those and then you pull the lens out the front. From that point you can easily remove the lamp for replacement.

I need an alternator mount for a 1995 gmc safari. I think that's what you would call it. It's the piece that is bolted to the engine that the alternator is bolted to.

your best bet ,, Junk yard, just take the old one so you can match up the hole pattern, they are all pretty common, and you'd save a bunch of money

1995 gmc safari...replaced water pump..disconnected negative cable at battery before starting..after completing went to start, starter just clicked 1-2 times then start...this has continued for a...

Hi ohionow08,

No doubt a cold weather snap can kill a battery faster than anything! I see your battery voltage is 13.68 volts, but is that under a load or is that static voltage? If this only started after you disconnected the negative cable, I would suggest first that you remove that cable again from the battery, remove the 5mm bolt from the cable and insulation completely and check for corrosion inside the insulation and on the bolt itself. If you find corrosion, clean everything well with a wire brush. It may help to make a solution of baking soda and water in a spray bottle and use it to help break up and corrosion deposits. Reinstall everything and check the other end of the ground to make sure there is no corrosion there.

If these things check out ok and then you may want to consider having the battery load tested. Most auto parts stores will offer this service for free as a tool to get customers into their stores.

How do i get the inside engine cover off a 1995 gmc safari . i unlatched the bottom latches ,but i wont come off

There are two fasteners, one on each side of the cover that will have to be removed. use a ratchet with a long extension and the appropriate sized socket. The fasteners, or bolts, may be hidden by the carpet or insulation.

I cannot get to the first-front plug on the drivers side. Interior engine cover removed. Vehicle 1995 gmc safari van.

Try to get to it by removing the wheel on that side if you can get to it from there.

How do i replace the altenator

1. Remove the plastic air intake system which includes the air filter, 1 vacuum hose, the tube that runs to the carb, the tube that runs off to the left. There are three bolts that hold the bottom of the air filter housing on. Most of this system is a snap together assembly. Just pull it apart.

2. The alternator will have two bolts on the front bottom. The left one is a double sided bolt and the right one is a pass through bolt with a nut on the back. Stick a wrench or a short socket wrench on the nut behind the alternator and remove the pass through bolt from the front. Then remove the double sided bolt from the left side.

3. This leaves the alternator loose and being held by the belt. remove the belt from the alternator and wiggle and jiggle the alternator out of the mounting area (very tight squeeze to get it out). You can put a larger size can of fruit or something in the place of the alternator to hold the belt in place so you can remember how it looks.

4. You will need to loosen the belt tensioner to put the belt on the new alternator. Remove the can of fruit if you chose to do that but be careful to not accidentally remove the belt from the 5 or 6 different places it passes through. Place the new alternator, put in the bolts and tighten. Loosen the tensioner and put the belt on. Tighten the tensioner and adjust as needed. Replace the entire air intake system by snapping it all back together and bolting it in one piece at a time.

How can i remove the alternator from a 2002 gmc safari i allready remove the air filter but i dont know how to loose the band?

use a ratchet without any socket on the idler/tensioner pulley, this will loosen the tension on the belt to be able to remove it. after that, it's easier to remove the alternator with the braket still on, that bracket has a few long bolts 3-4 to remove, the, disconnect wires from alternator. installation is reverse procedure as always
