There is a leak, somewhere,You may have to have a pressure checker put on it,and pump it up,and look for the leak, and it could just be the radiator cap.Look for pots on the radiator, and engine to where it may have left a stain. Also, look under the water pump pulley, look good, they leak there also.

I have already replaced the water pump on it plus a new thermostat, plus the upper and lower hoses.
    does this info help?

Yes,but double check these things, loose clamp,or leaking at the pump,or the radiator itself, look for stains, this is a lot of places to look, but it is the only way to find the leak,is by looking for stains and leaks, with out a radiator pressure tester.

Coolant reservoir empty when sitting overnight

You must have a coolant leak. If there are no signs of a leak, you may have a gasket on the engine that has gone bad, and the coolant is being pushed out the exhaust system. The coolant expands when hot and cools when the engine cools. During the cooling stage the cooling system creates a suction on the coolant in the reservoir and draws enough coolant back into the system to keep it full. Apparently you are loosing enough coolant somewhere that the reservoir can not fill the system before going dry.

My 02 chevy cavalier overheats without a sign of leaking coolant

Not sure I am with you on this. The cooling system is designed to run between 190 and 210 as a normal range. Above 210 and the radiator fan should start up. Anything over 230 is considered Hot.
Is the radiator fan coming on around 220 degrees ?

Sounds like your thermostat is not opening. When you replace it (engine cold) make sure you obtain the correct temperature setting (170-190 for example) for you specific vehicle.

I had refilled coolant yesterday. Today, coolant is empty and engine gets very smokey.

Always check your hoses for leaks. Check also if your radiator has water while engine is shut off. Add water to your radiator and add the coolant in the reservoir if its empty. Start it and observe your engine while running and check the hoses if anything is leaking. Check underneath of the car if something is dripping. Observe your temp gauge if it rises. If you don't find anything leaking, you could check your radiator only after you let the engine cool down. If the water is drained inside the radiator, then the radiator could be busted. If you have a perfectly fine radiator and the hoses do not leak, then it could be the water pump that's defective. If you are unsure about the problem then have it checked in your local dealership or your friendly neighborhood mechanic.

Losing coolant from the reservoir but cannot see any coolant leaking on drive. Fill reservior to MAX and within ~10miles, reservoir is drained. Refill while engine still hot and don't lose nearly as much...

my '01 Jetta had a similar problem. I could always smell coolant and the bottle was always low. I crawled under the car and there it was..a caked on mess of pink antifreeze. There is a plastic intersection 3 way valve where the coolant temp sensor resides. it has 2 bolts and a rubber o-ring. Because it is plastic, it cracks. it drips down onto areas which are really not visible from above and then sizzles and melts onto areas under the engine. The part was only about $25, took 30 min to install and my problem is now fixed. Air was getting into the system through the small crack in the valve further complicating the system operation.

1996 gmc k1500 4x4 5.7 vortec motor no start keep

Replace the coolant sensor on the front of the intake manifold. The coolant sensors on this engine does go bad and wont set a check engine light. The sensor will read about -32 to 0 degrees when they do go bad. The computer thinks it is that cold and sends tons of fuel to the engine. If you try to start the engine with the throttle depressed to the floor it puts the fuel system in clear flood mode and wont fire the injectors. Engine will start then and run very rich. The coolant sensor has two wires on it and sometimes you need to replace the wiring pigtail going to it as the sensor can seep coolant into the connector and corrode the terminals. All the parts are available at pepboys and autozone or napa. Good luck

Radiator and reservoir are empty after water pump change.

fill the raditor to the top only when cold, top off the coolant bottle level to full cold, reinspect the coolant bottle after the engine get to proper operation temputure and add coolant to the bottle only. NEVER take off the radiator cap when hot!

Do i need to add coolant to my reservoir if it is empty, 97 chevy suburban

Yes. Before you do, remove cap on rad when engine is cool & top it up too, if needed. Keep an eye on temperature gauge for a day or 2 & coolant bottle level, just in case there is another problem.

2000 Toyota Celica coolant reservior empty

I hate to tell you this but its possible...

You have a leak. Look around on the driveway and try to determine if you have an external leak as opposed to an internal leak. If you see no coolant on the ground, suspect a blown head gasket. Do not continue to drive this car in this condition. If it does indeed have a blown head gasket, serious engine damage will occur.

Check your exhaust for white smoke. Chances are good you have a blown head gasket and coolant is leaking into the engines combustion chambers and is essentially burning off. Also check your oil, if it looks like caf mocha, this will confirm coolant is leaking into the oil via the blown head gasket
