I need to know what is missing from the intake manifold vaccum on my 1995 Honda Passport V6, there is just a hole where the air sucks in, shouldn't there be a hose or filter or something?

I need to know what is missing from the intake manifold vaccum on my 1995 Honda Passport V6, there is just a hole where dirty air sucks into the motor when it is running , shouldn't there be a hose or filter, plug or something?
The little stem that sticks out has a rubber sleeve, but clean cut like something plugs it not like a hose broke off. When the hole is plugged (as I have it now) the engine idles lower, as in correctly, I think it idles high when the hole/hose is not plugged. Thanks for any input :)

At least I know the hole should be plugged ;)

Is this just a hole?Or is it threaded, like something should screw into it?It most likely had a metal pipe ,like a nipple that a hose goes to,for maybe pcv valve,or breather emissions tube.

No it is not threaded there is a rubber sleeve over the end, but it is not part of a hose that broke off because the end is very clean cut like it came that way... I can't see any lines that are loose that should connect to it, was thinking there was just some kind of plug/filter that is supposed to stick in there and it fell out? I can't find a diagram anywhere of what it is supposed to look like....

are you sure it is sucking air?Is it affecting the engine performance?

  • dawnshine99 May 31, 2010

Yes I'm sure it sucks air, with the engine running when I touch it I can feel suction, also when I put my finger there the engine idles down. The engine has been idling high especially right after starting,

Aside from the fact that this little intake is just sucking dirty air into my motor, that can't be right, right?

It could have been, and most likely was a rubber plug, and the end came off,for now I would plug it off, continue looking for what it might be.

Find the pcv valve, and make sure it is hooked up to a vacuum

  • dawnshine99 Jun 01, 2010

Thanks for the advice. I do have it plugged already, but good to know that was ok, I'm new to this forum, will others still respond to my question if they have more info? Thanks again.

I HAVE A 1997 CHEVY LUMINA ON THE TOP MANIFOLD PASSENGER SIDE THEIRS A PORT THATS SUCKING AIR AND NO HOSE TO BE FOUND?

I found this picture--3.1L . #10 says to accessory, Other than hvac, I can't think of any other accessory that uses vacuum? If everything works ok, plug it. You could use a piece of vacuum line, block one end of it, the open end slip it over the port. At least, you won't have a vacuum leak.

How do you check transmission fluid in 1995 honda passport?

There is a plug on the bottom of the transmission pan... (Thank you Isuzu...) There is a step in the pan and the plug should be there. You will want the vehicle running and best of luck adding fluid upside down. Even on a lift at a dealer this is a pain in the you know what. There are tools available that you can use to do this. You suck the fluid out of the bottle and then push it into the hole. If fluid runs out while it is running, it's full. Best of luck, it's a messy process.

I have an Aurora.. It is not idling correctly. It sometimes will not shift gears until the 3000 RPMs, and it tries to die when you come to a stop. I have had the transmission rebuilt and replaced, the fly...

These symptoms indicate a vacuum leak. Check all vacuum lines attached to the engine intake manifold--especially any that go to the transmission. Check both ends with the engine running for tight connections and listen for leaks. Also look carefully over the intake manifold for any missing hoses--a port on the manifold that is sucking air. Let me know if you have questions and thanks for using FixYa.

My 95 Passport is running rich...

Try resetting computer and unplugging O2 sensor, and see what happens, if fine replace sensor. Ther are only so many things that can cause a rich condition, excess fuel pressure, EGR valve leaking exhaust into intake when it should be closed, no vacuum to fuel pressure regulator or ruptured fuel pressure regulator diaphram, no vaccum to MAP sensor, Air or Coolant temp senosr reading cold when engine is hot. Your mechainc shold be able to eliminate all these.

Replace upper intake gaskets. They are made of metal and plastic. A common problem. Do not remove the very top plenum cover gasket.

Ford Escourt 1.6 Si Running Badly

I'll try, 1st let look at the air being sucked in, the area you are describing sounds like where the plug wires are. The only tube that can leak air (sucking in noise) in this area is the intake tube that goes between the intake manifold and the air filter, if this hose has a big leak it will make that sucking in sound, it will also prevent air from going through the Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF). This will cause the engine to run poorly. Check the intake hose if it is cracked, got a hole in it, then replace it. Hope this helps, let me know.

what it basically sounds like is you have a vaccum leak. chances are either the vaccum line to the manifold is got a hole in it or your mps(manifold pressure sensor might be on the fritz) if you replaced the manifold gasket it was because you thought you were sucking air and you thought you were leaqning the fuel air mixture some how. take a look for the vaccum leak and i'm sure you will solve this problem... please rate this..thanks
