Im going to get a used tranny from a junk yard. what do i look for smell for when looking for one? im pretty good at working on an auto just need some tips thnks!

usually you get transmission from cars that have avg life mileage and have been totalled by the insurance and parted out, so if the car was just involved in a wreck, the transmission should be o.k. for at least another 50k, i had to do the same thing with one of my cars the tranny cost me $600 ten years ago, so you get what you pay for..there should not be a burnt smell, and fliud should be nice and red. if black, i would be suspect that it was never maintained, shy away from that. Black usually could mean a lot of wear on the clutch plates. you could also, if you find one that you think is good, and the junk yard allows it ...drop the pan and look for metal savings, if there's a lot, dont buy it. Usually you will see a "tiny" little bit, this is normal wear on and older car. if you liked this info, could you rate this answer. Thanks.

My fiancie's starter just went out on her 98 chevey cavalier and I need to know how to fix it.Ive changed my starter on my ford explore and it was quite easy so Im hoping that it wont be as difficult on...

judging by labor times if its the 2.2 liter it only pays 8/10ths , can't be that bad , if its the 2.4liter , it pays 1.2 hrs , could be a little more tricky. good luck with that

Headlights always blow out

I took mine in for this same problem. They told me the alternator was charging "too good" and they replaced it. Sounded fishy to me, but the alternator was under warranty at the time so it was a free fix. In any case after that my headlights never blew out again.

Just bought a 1993 wrangler

I suggest you first buy (~$20 US) a Haynes or Chilton service manual.
It will pay you back many times over.
They are available at any chain auto parts store and I wouldn't be without one for each vehicle we own; they answer a lot of questions for which you would otherwise have to pay for.
