My 2002 Aztec radio locked, trac on light, abs, service engine soon light, securiity light and others on, is there a way to unlock the radio and can I replace the BCM and ECM myself? The dealer says over 1100 bucks for just that!

I helped my brother in law replace the BCM in my 2001 Pontiac Aztek. It was a task and you may need an extra hand. you will have to remove both front seats. you will have to take the middle console apart to get to it. You will have to be very careful not to damage the module. once you get everything apart on the console, you'll need to unplug the things that are plugged in on the driver side , then pull the whole module out. exchange them out and put it all back together in the order you took it apart. It was much easier getting it all back together though. I still need to go to the dealer to unlock my stereo . Everything else is working fine. The dealer wanted to charge me almost 800.00 to do this . I paid 300.00 for the BCM ,and whatever the cost will be to unlock the radio .

Locked radio 2006 gmc canyon

Most modern cars have a security code enable for the installed radio/cd players. This is an anti-theft device.

The initial documents given to the owner when the vehicle was purchased lists this code and how to reset it.

If you are second owner/original owner who has lost this information, then, you can approach gmc canyon dealer and they will have this code on their server. Normally a free service (I believe).

The security code is lost from the radio whenever keep alive voltage is removed from the radio. i.e. You disconnected or replace the battery.

I hope this helps.

Lost radio code

Radio lock out codes are security related, and each code is unique to the car and the radio in that car, and that unique code was supplied with the original paper work when the car was delivered to the original owner to discourage theft, so they are not published on the internet, if they were what would be the point?? any thief could get the code after stealing your radio. Contact the dealer for instructions and what info u need to get your cars unique radio code. The dealer will require the serial number off the radio and proof of ownership of the car it came from.

How Do I Get My Radio Out OF Safe Mode? Anyone?

Hi.

The radio goes in safe mode when the battery gets disconnected, or if for some reason the radio lost power connection.

To get the radio out of safe mode you will need the anti theft code.
This is available with car documentation, in first page of the in car entertainment booklet, or on first page of the car booklet (not the car manual).

Once you have got the code, do the following:

  1. Hold down both the AM/FM and the SCAN button at the same time, until the display shows "1000".
  2. Use the buttons 1,2,3,4 to change each of the digits until you get displayed the same code as printed on documentation (ensure that it is the right one).
  3. On some radio (programmable models), the default code is "1111" or "1234".
  4. Press and hold the AM/FM and SCAN buttons again until the radio is starting.
  5. If you fail twice the code, the radio will lock up in safe mode, and you won't be able to enter the code again.
  6. If the radio is locked, or if the code is lost, the unlock can be done at the nearest car dealer, usually for a small fee, or for free.

Regards.
