Hi what you will have to do is, remove the serpentine belt ( make sure you take a note of how it is routed, draw a picture is a good tip ) then on the water pump you should have 4 hex bolts/studs get a long screwdriver and force it between one of the hex bolts/studs to hold it while you undo one of the others, when you get one loose then move the pump round till you can put the scredriver on that one and continue till all are loose, once loose just remove them completly and the pull of the pulley...hope that helps please vote thanks

Locating the crank censur 1995 ford Thunderbird

The Crankshaft Position (CP) sensor, located inside the front cover is used to determine crankshaft position and crankshaft rpm.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts, then remove the accessory drive belt is necessary.
  3. Disconnect the wiring to the crankshaft position sensor. Remove the sensor mounting bolt, then remove the sensor.
To install:
  1. Install the sensor and connect the wiring. Tighten the mounting bolt to 71-106 inch lbs. (8-12 Nm).
  2. Install the accessory drive belt if removed. Tighten the water pump pulley bolts as described in routine maintenance.
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.

Hope helps (remember to rating this free answer).

Do i have to remove my timing belt in order to replace my water pump in my 1997 ford thunderbird lx its a 4.6 v8

Your car use3s a timing chain not a belt. The water pump will be serviced by first removing the serpentine belt and then removing the water pump pulley and then finally removing the water pump. It is a fairly easy pump to replace.

If you have any further question please ask I I will be happy to help.

I have to replace a idler pulley tensioner on my 96 Ford Thunderbird LX, its the little round black peice that helps pull the belt, and I was wanting to know how I would go about replaceing it, what type...

yes you need to remove the belt completely then remove the center bolt in the pulley becarefull removing the bolt it could reverse thead (instead of left to loosen its right to loosen) if it is the tensioner pulley its more then likely reverse thread , if its just the ildler pulley its normal.

To remove the water pump do I need to remove the power steering

From the sounds of it you have the 3.8L V6, to get that bracket off you will need to remove the power steering pulley, to do this you will need a power steering pulley remover and installer, the only other way is to cut the bracket which is not a good idea.
