2002 Ford Taurus will not start, I think it is the anti theft system. How do we reset that or by pass it?

If it was the PATS - anti-theft system you would not have any clicking at the starter . You have connection ,cable or starter problems , most likely . Testing the starter electrical circuit doing voltage drop testing .
Starter Voltage Drop
Do you know what a wiring diagram is ? Free wiring diagrams here Enter vehicle info. year , make , model and engine size . Under system click on engine then under subsystem click starting . Click the search buttom then the blue link. Looking at the wiring diagram I see fuse's at the top ,starter relay in the middle an at the bottom the starter , PCM - this is the engine computer . The PCM will energize the starter relay only if it receive's the correct coded message from the PATS module or which module is in charge of that . So you would not even get a click at the starter ,because the relay wouldn't even be energized . You could possibly have a transmission range sensor problem or positive battery cable to tthe starter or ground cable .

Hey Jon do you have a security light lit on the dash ? There is a starter enable relay that is energized by the pass key decoder module - anti-theft system ! There are more relays under the dash right side, I/P relay center ! My service info shows relays at the back center of engine compartment , these are cooling fan relays -two , A/C compressor relay , maxi fuse relay center an blower motor relay .

When i changed ignition on 2001 ford explorer I ended up having to replace steering column now it wont turn over & the anti theft light flashes & wont stop. what can be done to get car started?

At least you know the anti theft system is working. Jokes aside, I would think that the electronic security system is not recognising the new lock and steering column. You could try leaving the battery completely disconnected for at least 2 or 3 hours to see if the system resets. Reconnect the battery and then try again with the new key. You will have to put the security code back into your radio as well. If this doesn't work, it may need to go to a Dealer to reprogram your electronic system.

2004 ford explorer will not turn over with key but remote starter switch makes it turn over

Its a good possibility that the Anti-theft is interferring with the circuit. If you have an extra ignition key, use that in case the password chip in your regular FOB has detriorated.

There is a brake sensor which is on the upper brake pedal. It interlocks with the starter to prevent starting without having your foot on the brake pedal. Check your brake lights for operation. If the brake lights stay dark with your foot on the pedal, the switch is broke or knocked out of position. A common problem.

Next, there are small wires for the starter solenoid. You can use a test light on one removed wire and ground the test light to the vehicle, the other end in the small wire. Turn the keyswitch to start, with brake pedal pressed and see if it lights up. If it does light up, the starter solenoid may be bad.

Battery level. Ford Anti-theft and some say Battery-saver, can cause both starting and charging problems. A fully charged battery can be at 13.2V- 13.6V. When Ford systems detect low voltage it can activate the Anti-theft, battery-saver, and even disconnect the charging system to allow the battery to completely drain. In some cases the Anti-theft drops starter voltage to around 7V so the starter will not spin. Have the battery tested.

I know of 2004 trucks that were jump started and showed charging, then after 5-10 minutes they lost the charging system. Some people lost the charging system at 70MPH and drove until they stalled. All because of the automatic features built into the trucks. A new battery fixed the problem. Your problem could stem from this.

2004 saturn not starting change the starter and a new battery

I found that the anti theft in the ignition was the source of the problem. Changed the ignitiion, bought a new key. Ten points have to touch in order for the anti theft not to lock you out. When it have to wait ten minutes to re-try. After the third time you are resetting the passcode. Last year to get past the initial problem I used a small electrical heater and placed it on the floor board under the ignition switch to wwarm the switch before starting. Worked every time!

2004 acura tl will not start lights and air works all i hear is a clicking sound when i turn the ignition

Of course the first thing to do is have the battery tested, but that doesn't seem to be at fault here, if the lights and the AC blower work, but it still must be checked. I think the real problem here is a detective starter motor Solenoid, this is the large high current solenoid that is bolted to the starter, it is the click you hear, the click means the solenoid is operating but the reason that the starter doesn't crank the engine is that the heavy electrical contacts that send power to the starter DC motor are burnt and not allowing current to follow, this is a common problem in Japanese designed starter motors no matter which car they are in they are all made by one company, and that is Denso Electric. Most shops will not change just the starter solenoid, they want to replace the starter assembly, the reason being they feel they can't guarantee the job if the whole Assembly isn't replaced, this is especially true on high miles cars and trucks. This is about a 2 hour job.
Here is the job procedure from the manual:

Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio, and the navigation system, then write down the radio channel presets. Make sure the ignition switch is OFF.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2. Remove the left side engine compartment cover.
  3. Disconnect the negative cable and positive cable.
  4. Remove the battery hold-down bracket, then remove the battery and battery tray.
  5. Remove the harness clamp.
  6. Disconnect the starter cable from the B terminal, then disconnect the BLK/WHT wire from the S terminal.
  7. Remove the two bolts holding the starter, then remove the starter.

To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the starter bolts to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm).
  2. Make sure the crimped side of the ring terminal is facing out.
  3. Connect the battery positive cable to the battery first, then connect the negative cable.
  4. Start the engine to make sure the starter works properly.
  5. Enter the anti-theft codes for the radio and the navigation system, then enter the customer's radio channel presets.
