Question about 1995 Cadillac DeVille

Replaced the o2 sensor twice and the fault code still says a problem exists with it. what else is related that i need to have checked?

    sorry 94 deville and the fault code is P 041. replaced the sensor with a cadillac part and then a different manufactured one. same code fault on both. thanx

Have you checked the air filter to ensure it's clean and free of debris? The O2 sensor determines how much air is moving through it. If their is a blockage at the air filter, then it will show an error also. Check to ensure that the filter is clean, replace if necessary, and that the hose supplying air to the O2 housing is free of any debris.

I replaced an oxygen sensor in my dodge stratus twice..the check engine light came back on and the code says it's the same sensor..what do you suggest


The problem with a code read is that it IS NOT the same as a diagnostic. The reason for the O2 sensor code is obviously still a problem. If the code was for a lean condition (for example P0171) then the O2 may have been doing it's job and the engine really is running lean from other reasons -- like a vacuum leak or poor air fuel mixture. If it had a code P0172 = that is code for a rich condition... Still the O2 may be doing it's job and the engine is really running rich. You really need to see O2 data to determine if the O2 is at fault and also need a technician that is well versed in diagnostics to read the scanner.

I would suggest taking the vehicle to a qualified technician to be diagnosed and then replace the necessary defective item(s).

O2 sensor or relay


it could be more a relay problem, do you have the code as the code helps better different code reads come up with a generic code and code read will say what the code is but this can differ from what the code actually means, like Code 41 to test the sensor, do this. you will need a meter, Turn ignition off. Disconnect 4-wire connector from O2 sensor. Measure resistance between connector terminals "A" and "B" on O2 sensor. See Fig. 9 . If resistance is 15-20 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 15-20 ohms, replace O2 sensor. then this Check for continuity from each terminal of O2 sensor to ground. If continuity exists, replace O2 sensor. If continuity did not exist, check for continuity between O2 sensor terminal "A" and terminals "C" and "D" individually. See Fig. 9 . If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity did exist, replace O2 sensor.
192750_ho2s90accord_1-02v24stlnrwd2v1pzef3romw-4-0.jpg there is a heater built into the sensor this heats the sensor to work more efficiently. if the heater is damaged this will not work properly, when the exhaust is up to temp it turns it off but still reads the heater. sensor reading is constant. if this fails the ecu log this as a fault and in USA it cuts the engine out. as there is a fault with reading the sensor. a weak or warong relay will also give a false problem but this is because the connections are not good, sometimes you can repair the relay if its not connecting properly, as the copper heats up and its arcing in the switch it will stop connecting until it has cooled down. you can clean the connections on thew switch inside the relay and adjust the copper arm so its a better connection when the relay is in use. O2 sensor this is not the case it could be damaged and need replacing, also if the weather has been wet and humid there could be a leak in the connector to the main wiring this can be a bad seal on the plug, check this for water and also check the connections inside as if they white this means water has gotten in there clean them with emery cloth to clean them back up to a shine and make a good connection. the relay has 2 plastic tabs that you use to open the relay up, they are in the bottom of the plastic use a flat blade or driver to prise it open. hope this helps.

Are you sure it is a code 28? I only ask because my book doesn't show a code 28 in regards to this problem. I show codes 25 and 26 that may relate to this problem. But before replacing o2 sensor, there are other probabilities for this code showing up. They would be: Injector or injector circuit, Coolant temp sensor or circuit, Air temp. sensor or circuit, Airflow meter, Cold start injector, ECM (Electronic Control Module- THE BRAIN) Or the o2 sensor of course. Plz save your money before purchasing o2 sensor and check possible related items first.You may find o2 sensor is not at fault. Hope this helps.

No it doesn't say O2 sensor it says a problem exists in the O2 sensor circuit. The diagnostics must be done to determine the actual failed part.

Changed 02 sensors and check engine light blinking


Why was the O2 sensor replaced in the first place? Was the engine light on before? What codes were scanned? A fault code related to the O2 sensor does nor always mean the sensor is bad, there can be other things that will make the sensor read incorrectly, such as bad plugs, dirty throttle body, etc.

2004 blazer 4x4 with a vorteck motor codes po135 and po155 bank 1 and 2 heat malfunction. i have replaced both sensors twice. after a few days the codes come back on what causes this problem?


a vacuum leak could cause this. dirty air filter. worn out plugs dirty fuel filter. the codes dont necessarily mean the o2 sensors are bad just that a condition exists. lean/rich that the o2 sensors are picking up. examine these items to see they are clean and in good working order. hope this helps

How do i fix a 41 code on a1986 chevy c-10


Code 41 means that the computer is seeing an incorrect signal from the O2 sensor. This code relates to fault in O2 sensor or its due to loose O2 sensor wiring's.It has to be checked. Check the wires going to the O2 sensor. The wires may have got pinched in between the transmission and the engine or laid them across the exhaust.If the wires are properly connected and not pinched then its fault in O2 sensor which needs to be checked and replaced. I have a 2004 GMS Envoy xl that is putting out the codes P0136 (twice) and then P0606. What do they mean?


P0136 - O2 sensor malfunction, Bank 1 sensor 2." Drivers side exhaust down pipe after the Catalytic converter O2 sensor needs to be replaced."

P0606 - Control Module Internal Performance " Internal PCM failure." Replace the PCM.
For Electronic Throttle Control applications, an internal PCM failure, or an ETC system FMEM condition exists. Repairing the other DTCs can fix the P0606.

Hi

If the engine is running without any problems then The fault code which has flagged the checked engine light will either pertain to the upstream O2 sensor, a drop in catalytic efficiency, an EGR issue, or maybe even an EVAP issue.

A lot of EVAP issues can be resolved by simply ensuring that the fuel filler cap is on securely, otherwise a vacuum leak will be detected in the system and the check engine light will come on.

A drop in catalytic efficiency (P0420) is usually temporary and will stay away after a reset.

EGR issues can sometimes be rectified by removing the EGR valve and cleaning it, and the ports on the intake where it was sat, but there are occasions when it has to be renewed.

The O2 sensor issues are a wee bit different. There are a number of fault codes which relate to the O2 sensor, and which make the O2 sensor look faulty, when the O2 sensor is actually attempting to rectify a problem from elsewhere and isn't faulty at all. However, they could also be due to a fault with the O2 sensor. Basically, further checks should be made before condemning the O2 sensor should the fault code relate to the sensor.

Have a code read done and then have the codes reset and see what comes up.
