Question about 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport
Check this procedure about how to replace a serpentine belt...
1. Serpentine Belt
1. Combination Wrench Set
3. Pry Bar
4. Serpentine Belt Tool
5. 3/8 in. Drive Ratchet
6. Socket Set
Step 1 Open your hood and locate your vehicle's serpentine belt.
o Tip: Safety Tip:Always wear safety glasses when working on your vehicle. Wear other personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, for example latex gloves or safety shoes.
o Tip: Take the key out of the ignition. Always make sure the shocks on your hood can fully support the weight so that it does not close on you while working. If necessary, use a Hood Prop Tool to securely hold the hood up.
o Tip: Make sure the engine is off and cold before inspecting your serpentine belt to prevent any burns or injuries.
Step 2 Locate the serpentine belt tensioner.
o Tip: It is a good idea to draw a diagram of how the serpentine belt is routed. Not all vehicles have a belt routing diagram under the hood.
Step 3 Move tensioner to loosen the belt.
Step 4 Remove the serpentine belt.
Step 5 Install the new serpentine belt making sure the belt is routed the same way as before.
o Tip: When installing the serpentine belt, make sure the serpentine belt is fully seated in the groove of the pulleys.
Step 6 Check the belt tension. Push down in the middle of a section of the belt. It should not move more than a half inch.
Step 7 Turn the engine off and recheck the serpentine belt tension. Adjust tension if needed.
o Tip: DO NOT attempt to touch the serpentine belt while the engine is on.
