The fuel pump is primed by the sensor switch on the engine which senses the oil pressure. Once the oil pressure is at normal operating range the engines computer shuts it off and powers up the fuel pump relay to take over till you shut the engine off
Replacing the oil sensor pressure switch will fix your problem

No, its not a filter issue. Most likely a fuel pump issue. Spray brake cleaner to see ifit will run while spraying sparingly. If it keeps running then the fuel pump failed.

Car cranks but will not start. stars for 2-3 seconds. full pump is good. would it be the crank sensor? no codes

It sounds like you need a new fuel filter. It runs until the fuel runs out and the fuel filter is preventing the fuel pump from reaching the correct fuel pressure. If the fuel filter doesn't fix the problem, you might have a bad crankshaft or camshaft position sensor, but this would usually cause the vehicle to die once it has warmed up a bit (when the timing starts to advance).

Vehicle starts cold but runs only for about 45 seconds, then dies. No reving just before it dies. Subsequent starts die immediately.

SOUND LIKE PROBLEM IS IN THE FUEL SYSTEM AND TIMING OFF.CHANGE FUEL FILTER HAVE FUEL PRESSURE CHECK.IT SHOULD RANGE FROM 34 - 40 PSI AND 53 - 59 PSI.SHOULD BE NO LOWER.IF FUEL PRESSURE GOOD.HAVE TIMING CHECKED.MAKE SURE PLUGS + WIRES GOOD ALSO CAP AND ROTOR.HAVE INJECTORS CLEANED.ALL THIS COULD CAUSE THE PROBLEM YOU HAVING.

Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter. The fuel filter should be replaced every 15,000 miles or once a year to ensure the fuel system is running 100%. Auto Zone will have the fuel filter and can give you the step by step instructions to getting the job done with common tools. If it's the fuel pump failure, you have not gotten the car restarted. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to know you got your car running 100% again soon and please rate.

Check the injectors, make sure that they arent corroded aswell, and there is a way to convert vane into Maf but i wouldnt do it since they do the same thing. Just make sure the contacts on the inside of the potentiometer are not obstructed and and smooth. IF it is old then it would be ok to replace it. Check the wiring for any cracks to the vane airflow. Also the fuel pressure regulator check that and see waht the pressure is there with it on and off. That might be bad too.

Blown Fuses - Dead 1998 Ford Escort

Try changing the fuel filter first we always change them when servicing the fuel pump anyway, its easy and cheap,if that doesnt solve the problem you will have to perform an amperage draw test on the fuel pump to insure your not replacing a good pump. Check the fuel pump relay and inertia switch and wiring also.Although possible its unlikley the fuel pump would blow a fuse consistantly without displaying any driveability problems. There may also be another component running off the fuel pump fuse have your mechanic pull a wiring diagram to find out. Good hunting keep me informed
