Question about 2001 Toyota RAV4

1 Answer

My toyota 2001 rav 4 makes rubbing sound only when i step on the brakes, thought it was the front brake early indicator, so changed front brakes..they needed it! But still makes the noise..sounds like it's coming from the rear of the car, it's 2WD not 4WD also have check out all the tires twice! could it be the rear brakes...have never had them replaced?

Yes, this will be the rear brakes. Most of these are the same design as the front and are as easy to replace. You should always change all the front and back brakes at the same time, as it will affect braking and handling.

Change rear brakes and your problem will be resolved.

This is a brake modulator valve issue and it is going to be expensive to replace.

This is a typica grounding error. You should try to add a good ground cable to your tail light. Sound strange but this often solves such issue:)

Grinding, cracking sound from front wheel

check your brakes to see how worn out they our the indicator on your brake shoes could be telling you some thing , like you need new brakes. You could also have a rock stuck in between the brake shoe and rotor .

Why are the brakes on the rav 4 not all disc brakes.

I can only assume it is cheaper for them to manufacture drum brakes. Quite a few newish vehicles seem to still run drums on the back. They are usually the cheaper models. I would have thought discs would have been cheaper and less fiddly to make but it seems not.

2007 Rav 4- Front Brake pad growl during stops

I had a 2008 rav4 and within the first 10,000 I noticed this problem. Had the pads changed at 12, 22, 30, all free of charge from the dealer. Had the rotors replaced as well twice, the issue came up again & since it was a lease I threatened to sue and I was released from my term fee free. If you are having the same issue post here we need to open a dialogue. I'm sure many people have just paid for repairs without thinking it's an issue on the vehicle. Toyota will deny it until it's a media issue....
