Question about 2002 Dodge Neon

1 Answer

My 2002 Dodge Neon has been having a hard time starting every day, and now it pretty much stalls at stop lights, I push down on the gas but it takes a good minute for the car to get going. Now, the check engine light came on, misfire codes are 1 & 4. My brother replaced all spark plugs, and the ignition coil, but it's still giving the same codes. Any idea what exactly these codes are?

First off there are no codes 1 and 4.
Turn the key from off to ACC three times and take down the number that shows.
Call your local dealer with the code or better yet take it to the dealer and ask them to give you the real codes. Also take down your VIN# and check on recalls. Do this every 6 months for the life of the car.

One other thing to try - put a new battery in the car or at least charge the one in there to 100% and see if it doesn't run better. IT really can make a difference.
Remember - the VIN number to the dealer will help you the most right now.

If you have an overdrive transmission the direct drive clutch may not be releasing. Have the trouble codes read to see if the computer or a sensor is starting to fail.

2002 neon died going down the road doing 30 mph.won't do anythig.have lights but oil light won't come on when you turn the key.battery seems fine

I also have a 2002 neon and a few mo.s ago it shut down. A mechanic told me it might be the fuel pump. He suggested taking off the breather cover and take out air filter and spray starting fluid toward the intake. Sure enuf it started. The next day I towed the car to the mechanic and brought a new pump and later was good to go.

2001 dodge neon stalls at stop lights. cleaned out the iac valve, made a difference, but still wants to stall at stop lights.

Check fuel pressure and a possible vacuum leak.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

2002 Neon. Radio shut off, lights went off and heat shut off, and started idling bad. Eventually it staled. Put in a new battery and it started right up. Next day same thing. Is it the altenator or wiring...

sounds like the regulator is bad in the altenator. Start vehicle and disconnect negative cable from battery. If it stays running you have another problem. If it stalls out right away the altenator isnt working.

I have an 2001 dodge neon, When i got it, it drove so good and now every time i try and start my car it has a hard time running and when i push on the gas pedal it sounds like my car is getting flooded or...

May have a few issues here. The first is a possible vacuum leak. Vacuum leaks are so broad though. You'll need to check the entire intake for rotten hoses. The hard start could be a bad fuel pressure regulator of fuel pump. Along with that. The Fuel Pump could be related to more than one of those problems unfortunately. Another thing could be the Throttle position sensor not getting the propper voltage to allow for smooth running and acceration. Does the car have a check engine light on?

Sounds like you are having trouble with the fuel pump on the car. Not enough fuel pressure to the injectors causing the car to sputter and die. If at all possible check the fuel pressure at the fuel test port on fuel rail, or if no test port will have to disconnect fuel line on passanger side of car next to firewall. Squeeze the connector clamp on hose to release it and hold it away from yourself and just turn on the ignition. The fuel should come out at a good force, if not the pump is at fault. On the test port if you have one use a fuel test gauge and the pressure should be about 53 to 63 psi. The codes for misfire on engine are #1 misfire po301 and #4 misfire is po304. Hope this will help you.

Dodge neon gas pedal problem

Not sure what spring you're talking about with the CAI. The CAI is just pipes and hoses, there shouldn't be a spring. Have you driven another 2002 neon before? I know with some cars, the gas pedals are a lot stiffer than others. My gas pedal on my Focus is a lot stiffer and more sensitive than my friend's aveo or civic. The spring I think you're refering to is probably the one hooked up to the pedal itself which is easy. Just pull out the old spring and put in a new one.
