Hi,
When you remove the distutor cap be sure to mark the wires or tape them SECURELY to the cap or they will many times fall out.

You will see the "O" ring at the BOTTOM of the distributor.
Be sure to remove the negative battery cable before starting.
Be sure to make the side of the distributor before loosening the bolts because you need to be sure it is in time when you put everything back together.

Here is what you will see once you get the distributor out.

  • But how do I get the rubber ring off? Do I pull it over the metal, or do I have to unscrew something?

    Oh - ok
push a small slot headed [ regular] screw driver under the old one or just cut it with a knife -
the new one slides over the bottom of the shaft.
LUBE the new one with some oil. Just enough to get it on there and set the new o ring in the sun for 30 minutes to give it a little more 'give' - you might get two of them when you purchase it just to have an extra in case something goes badly with the first one. I think though you will find it easy as pie.

I have a 98 honda accord 5 spd it has a 4cyl motor vtech i just need to know how to fix a miss fire in cylinder 2 and wich one is cylinder 2

Cylinder #2 is the the second spark plug counting from the right to left.
EX.Below are spark plug on engine
engine
-------------------------------
' (oil cap) '
' (4) (3) (2) (1) '
'_________________'

Your misfire can be cause by couple of things but the cheapest way that you can try to fix your car is to do a tune up by replacing:
1)all spark plugs
2)do a oil change
3)spark plug wires
3)distributor cap and rotor

note misfire can be cause by:
1.bad gas
2.spark plug and/or wire
3.distributor cap and/or rotor
4.valve adjustment
5.injector
6.off timing
7.ECM
8.bad wiring(power, ground or feed line)

Need to know how to set the timing on a 1990 honda accord ex

Pop out the spark plug in number 1 cylinder. Drop a long 1/4" drive extension in the cylinder. Turn the crankshaft until the timing mark on the crank pulley meets "0" and the extension is at it's highest point of travel. This is your correct crank position for timing. Pop the cover off and find the indentation or arrow on the outside front of the cam sprocket and align it with the corresponding mark on the head or cam cap. If you're only talking about using a timing light, then lossen the distributor bolt at it's base and turn the distributor until the mark is at 0. Engine must be at normal operating temp.

Changing valve cover gasket on 92 honda accord EX 4 cyl...

no and should be easy compared to what your used to.  Just put a small dap of silicone at the 4 points the cam bearing caps meet head(don't remove the caps) you will see what I mean when you get into the job. I also recommend distributor  o-ring they leak often and  are also fairly easy. just mark the dist. It will only go in 2 ways it has tabs to align it not gears.
