Hi the problem you are having is going to be with the clutch plate you will find that it has worn down to the metal pins and has no actual clutch plate left.

What is happening is that when you put the car in gear and let the clutch up the clutch is slipping on the plate instead of gripping and this is why you loose the drive.

To solve this problem your going to need to buy a clutch repair kit if your doing the sork yourself or get someone else to fit the parts for you.

Your going to need to replace the following:
pressure plate
clutch plate
thrust bearing.

dont try driving the car as it is as you could cause damage to the gearbox if the clutch plate and pressure plate shatter so its not worth trying to move the car until you have had the clutch fixed.

getting the clutch replaced involves removing the gearbox from the engine and this is best done with the car on ramps as the gear box will come out from the bottom of the car so it needs to be high enough off the floor to allow you to remove the gear box, its not a hard job if you have done it before but it is heavy work and if you have not done this before then your best getting someone else to replace the clutch for you.

getting the clutch changed will solve your problem and get you up and running again in no time.

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Why is my o/d light of my toyota camry blinking and why does it not have power

Almost certainly your No 1/2 shift solenoid has failed in the auto trans. This causes it to be unable to find low gear, hence the sluggishness. It is a common thing in older Camrys.

It is a simple repair once the tranny pan is taken off, but that is all best done on a hoist. You may as well have the internal filter changed as well.

What is the ect button by gear shift

ECT stands for Electronically Controlled Transmission. When you push the button in, there should be a light on the dash that says "ECT POWER". This changes the normal shift times (based on engine vacuum, rpm, and throttle position) to a later point. This means simply that the engine rpms will go higher before shifting to a higher gear when you're accelerating. It helps build speed more quickly but uses more gas to do so. hope this helps please vote thanks

What gear to drive in when towing a trailer with toyota camry

Whatever gear the car needs to have the moter spinning without full throttle.Auto and manual are driven differently.Up hill, downhill.Mostly,if its manual you wait a bit longer to change gears.E.g.Normal change revs,3000 rpm,go to 3500rpm with the trailer on.Auto, use the gear selecter and put it back to 3 instead of D and when the car has enough speed, then into D.Drive the auto like a manual on hills etc.to help it.Don't forget that braking distances almost double when you have a trailer on.Hope this helps

Does not go in gear, we just changed key switch, tumbler fell,

I Have The Full Manual And Own This Car You Can Override It Not Switching Gears. There Is A Little Square Next To The Shifting Lever Pop That Out And Push The Button While Shifting This Will Get It In Gear. But Please Explain Your Problem More. Are You Saying The Ignition Wont Work And You Just Changed The Ignition?
Sincerely,
