Question about 2001 Kia Optima

1 Answer

My car used to rumble when I turned left or right. I had the drivers side cv axel and the passenger side hub replaced on my Kia 2001 Optima. Now all my turns are smooth but there is loud rumbling, rattling noises in the front center. What could it be?

ES Lancer - vibration, dull grinding noise when turning right, even at low speeds. Intensifies as I approach 30+mph. Replaced CV Axle, Tie Rod End, Bearing, and Hub. No dice.

Turning right and having a loader noise, means the left/drivers side is bad. Turn right, more pressure on the left side. and vice versa.

I'am trying to take the transaxle out of the transmission to fix an oil leak

Remove the wheel cover and loosen the drive axel hub nut. loosen the the wheel lug nuts raise the vehicle and support it well. NOTE: you will have to be working under the car be very careful. remove the drive axel hub nut. To prevent the hub from turning, insert a screwdriver thru the brake caliper and into one of the cooling slots on the rotor. remove the control arm-to-steering knuckle. Check for the ABS sensor and remove it out of your way. Separate the drive axel from the hub. If stuck remove the brake caliper and rotor. Push the axel out of the hub with a puller or you can use a good solid broom handle and drive it out. If you are removing the right side axel you will need a slide hammer and adaptor to separate the axel from the trans. If you are removing the left side, carefully pry the axel out of the trans. with a large pry-bar positioned between the inner CV joint and the trans. case. Use the subframe as a pivot point. Hold the CV joints so they do not separate inside the rubber if going to reuse them. Lubricate the new seal with multi-purpose grease before you install it.

I have a 2001 kia optima and the mechanic told me it was the axel, when i turn it has a clicking sound

The clicking sound comes from the CV joint, which is part of the axle half shaft. There is a right and a left. When one is going bad, the other is most likely in similar condition, so you'll probably want to replace them both. What typically happens is the rubber boot fails, letting the grease come out of the CV joint and no longer keeping foreign matter out.

wd40 or ease it oil then turn the locking nut that tightens the cv joint to the hub and back to front and put it half way back down the thread then hit it with rubber hammer so not to damadge the thread but first you need balljoint off etc

2001 and 2002 jeep grand cherokee. while making hard left hand turn experience rumbling sound doesnt happen when driving straight or right turns. Cant decide if sound is from front or rear area

Try checking the bearing in the left wheel if the rumbling is on the left side. Sometimes bearings can be worn down and sometimes may even twist or bend.

How do i remove the drivers side cv axle on a kia. there is an inner clip on the new one do i need to pry it open on the old one?

The answer is NO... you do not pry it 'OPEN." I'm assuming you've already removed the cotter key and the 1 1/4" nut from the axel hub? The DOJ (Dual Offset Joint) that is inserted into the differential side of the trans has a retaining ring which "COMPRESSES" when you pry the DOJ out using a large pry bar or extra large screwdriver. The same 'COMPRESSION' happens to the ring when you install the new axel.... once fully inserted, the ring 'EXPANDS' inside the differential splines creating enough tension to keep the DOJ in place.

Need to replace front left cv axel

Best approach is to acquire a repair manual for that vehicle. Pep Boys or similar will likely have one..

2001 montero/ rumbling noise in front

There are a few things that this could be, and I see that you have replaced a few of the items that it could be but steering systems are a weird thing so here ya go:

  1. Excessive inner CV joint angle
  2. Sticking inboard joint assembly
  3. Lack of lube at the ball joints
  4. Loose upper strut mount
  5. Worn tie rods
  6. Loose stabilizer bar
  7. Loose suspension bolts
  8. And, believe it or not, a blister or bump on the tire
If you got a Chilton's or Haynes manual to do this job, it states in there how much grease should be packed into the bearings. Also, making sure of the length of your CV axle.

Post more info you would like, to pass on.
