Question about 2005 Ford Focus

1 Answer

My Ford Focus 2005 suddenly lost electical power. All controls have faint power. Nothing works. Occassionally it would light the radio but when I try to start, not power but faint sound like weak battery. But when I tried to series with another battery, still it won't start and still no full power surge. Is this a fuse issue?

My Ford 2005 Focus clock/radio is possessed.

Check engine light would have nothing to do with this ! Check engine light is for engine codes ! there is a problem with the radio it self ! or SJB - smart junction box , ford's BCM - body control module . You should take it to a qualified repair shop . or ford dealer !

I was sitting at a stop light and the car died and smoke came from steering column ever thing else works light radio etc but when you turn the key there is nothing no idiot lights no miles nothing the car...

Maybe the ignition switch burned up. A lot of juice travels through them and it has happened.
What is confusing is, lights will work without the switch. You should be able to turn lights on without the key in the ignition. But a radio normally needs the ignition turned to ACC (accessory) or ON. And some when left on don't turn off with the key off until the door is opened.

Possibly the ignition melted and is affected to where the radio still gets power as if it was in the ACC position

I cannot get my radio to work on a 51 ford focus (6000CD RDS) there seems to be no power at all

If it is nothing obvious like a fuse or bad connection then one  way of proving it is by using a multi-meter or a test lamp to prove that the + and  - (battery and chassis/earth) supply is available to the radio.

Another method is to try your radio in ANOTHER  car (or on a workbench )      and/or try another radio in YOUR car.

This will prove whether the problem is the radio or the battery supply or your car wiring.

Sounds like the head unit is bad on your audio system. You would need to replace the entire unit. I'd recommend an aftermarket stereo instead of another Ford stereo.

Radio issues

To get your radio working again you would most likely need to go to a ford dealer for help. Your radio probably has a security system which means you will need to button in a security number to get the radio working again.
So far as the volume control problem is concerned canginging the fuses would not normally cure this. As the cause of the fault is most likely a technical reason it would be best to take it to a service agent.
