I have seen this problem on other cars and has usually been the ignition module, on the mazda its called the ignitor, aproblem with this module stops the coil pack from working therefore no spark. the module seems to fail when the heat creates an open circuit, then when cools down some times only a couple of minutes and resumes to normal.
I hope this helps you with your problem

Are you sure about the open circuit? In my caseI have measuredc a momentary short which would also shut things down. I suppose it could be either and am trying to find wiring diagrams and schematics to find out what is going on.

watch motor running in the dark and look for arcing from spark plug wires. if you see arcing change wires. pull plug wires loose but leave them connected then with motor running disconnect each wire one at a time using an insulated pair of plyers. you should hear the engine change when each plug is disconnected then reconnected except for the one thats missing...pull the plug and see if its wet, oil soaked, burnt or anything.

Try a diffferent shop

Have to clean the MAF Sensor & replace upstream
oxygen sensors if over 100,000 miles

Need the correct oem spark spark plugs/any brand

No reason the gas filter should be clogged unless it was in
the car for 10 years

Fuel pressure should be checked

Need to check for cylinder misfires on a road test of 20
miles or more with professional software in Mode#06

Engine Misfiring. Rough Idling. Losing power going up hills. Engine light flickered one day. I brought it to dealer. They said cyl 5 had a fouled spark plug. They replaced it, retuned and cleared code....

It sounds like it could be a bad coil pack that is used for number 5 cylinder. It could also be a bad spark plug wire. Does the weather seem to make a difference? Try this quick check once night time comes around. Open the hood and start the engine. Fill a bug sprayer with salt water and spray the plug wire while the engine is running. If the wire is bad, you might notice an electrical arc from the wire to the engine block. The engine will probably start running rough. If this occurs, then the wire should be replaced. If it doesn't, then the coil pack can be tested with an ohm meter. I hope this information has been helpful to you. Good luck with your problem and thank you for using

My 2006 kia rio 5 has and intermittant engine miss. It never misses when the engine is cold, but once it warms up it will miss at idle and the check engine light will flash until the engine is reved up...

Hi, maybe it's the wires. Can you tell me if it's a random miss or specific to one particular cylinder? Do you have the trouble code? If it's random, it could be a lot of things.

Please see my tip at . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

I have a 1991 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme. I have just rebuilt the top part of the engine, I had to put on 2 new head gaskets. I got the engine back together and now the car will not start, it will turn...

did you get the spark plug wires to the correct cyls? Remember that an engine needs three things to start, 1: fuel, make sure your getting gas, 2: spark, make sure you have spark and you have it at the right time,3: compression, if anything went wrong when you replaced the gasket you could be losing compresion, an engine missing one of the three will not run, and any engine with all three will always run, not always well but will at least run.

Have a 2004 Ford Freestar 4.2l with 75k miles. About a month ago the engine started missing. Engine light was blinking. Took it to local shop and problem of course stopped before they could diagnose it....

Both Autozone and Oreillys will scan your van without charge. A blinking light usually means an intermittent problem and may be picked up on a scanner this time. The local shop did right by checking the wires and plugs.

What they did was to check the spark side of the problem. You may have a problem with a fuel injector or its wire which also causes a miss. Nothing is easy to work on anymore. If this is your only vehicle it makes it hard to do something.

If the next scan does not help you about all you can do is catch it missing, shut it off, and pull the plugs. You can tell if a plug is not firing by looking at it. Or you can mist the engine with a water spray bottle , keep it dark, and start the engine and look for sparks jumping.

1995 Ford Windstar has an intermittent stalling issue.

If it wont stall in neutral or park it may have a bad torque convertor clutch in the trans causing the engine to stall.

Check engine light and intermittent bucking

You might get lucky here. Go out and open the hood and start the engine when it's dark. See if you can see sparks jumping around the spark plug wires. That will tell you for sure. Otherwise, my first choice would be to put on new plug wires of the highest quality you can find. I've seen this type of problem before, and it can be made worse if the boots on the wires are not clean or too much grease was used at the factory. The solution was to clean everything and replace the wires and spark plugs because carbon tracks have been created that can't be easily (if at all) cleaned from the spark plug insulators. The coil towers will probably be okay if you clean them well.
