You have one of two problems
BAD ALTERNATOR
DIRTY CONNECTIONS
Clean the connections on the battery
"do not charge battery" Jump start the vehicle and soon as it starts pull off the jumper cables, turn on the head lights. If your alternator is bad it should die right away. If you already have a fully charged battery you can take vehicle into your local Napa or Kragen's and they will test your system for you.
My belief is that you have a bad alternator that is why is dies while you are driving. With most vehicles the current must flow through the battery, so if the connections are dirty you will normally just loose all connectivity.
Another issue you could have would be if your battery is bad and a cell may short out with movement. Generally a problem with older batteries
Good luck
You need to get your alternator checked. It should take over for the battery after the car is started.
There could be two reasons for this to happen. One. The alternator is not working and hence not charging the battery. Have it checked and rectified. Two. There is a short circuit somewhere. To find out, open the hood and from the fusebox, remove one fuse at a time and run the car locally to see if the battery has stopped discharging. When you locate a system shorting, rectify it by inspecting it thoroughly. Three. Both one and two. Very unlikely to happen.
