Depends on the boot. CV boots, it's actually more effective to replace the CV shaft. Ball joint, you have to replace the ball joint. Tie rods, it is highly recommended you replace that particular end.

About how much to fix?

If the CV boot is leaking, you MUST replace the complete axle shaft. Even if you could buy only the boot, you CANNOT get it clean enough inside to be reliable.

As to cost... that depends upon which country you live in, and whether a Nissan dealer will do the work or a small shop will do the work... or YOU will do the work.

The boot that covers the "CV Joint" has been detached.

When the rubber boot tears/woreout it allows the grease from the cv axle to be thrown out. The axle will not last long at highway speed. You can buy a temp boot but they do not last long.If you can do it yourself.Go to a parts store like autozone and get the complete cv axle.It is a complete rebuild with enter and outer boots. Or buy the parts and take to a garage. If you can afford it do both sides..

How to open boot

Hi, it could be that it isn't the latch, you may have a defective pressure line, both doors and the boot. Cost quite a lot to fix too considering it is a common fault on these vehicles

Change c.v.boot

A new boot kit will cost about 30-45 dollars. A reman half shaft, with both CV joints inspected, greased, and new boots on it, ready to install, is about double that. Last one I bought from Napa cost me 62.00.
Is your old boot torn? Unless you are sure the CV joint is still good, I would recommend buying the half-shaft. Just one CV joint costs more than the reman. jobs.

Was told by vw dealership I need a cv boot on 2007 jetta or could result in much more expensive repair later. Was told by 2 other auto repair shops that I should replace entire axil because cost to...

The repair shops are correct in the fact of it being more costly to replace just the boot. It's not that urgent to replace the axle if the boot just ripped. If you do start hearing popping and clanking sounds while turning corners, then it's time to change that axle since it will start making noises when it's worn.

Cv boots

generaly we replace the whole axle, just because it is more cost efficient. depending on demographic labor cost and parts mark up, you should be able to get it repaired for 180.00-230.00 per axle.
