You can buy a new cover for your steering colum, or go to the junk yard and find one that is in good condition. There is not any way out there to fix the issue, besides just replacing the part. It is a easy part to replace with only two screws holding it on.

Thanks for your reply. However, I was actually referring to the transmission shift lever collar on the steering column below the tilt lever. And, I think the steering column has to come apart for that. Can you confirm that?

Yes, what you are looking for all comes as basically one piece that you will need to connect when you get the part but it will have everything for you. From the shift level cover to the steering column cover, everything will be brand new.

My 1989 chevy s10 blazers sw runners are out, but my head lights work, and i know its not the blubs.

Try checking the fuses. There are two sets, one under the hood on the right side, and one under your steering column to your left which may be a little difficult to get to. If that's not it , you have a short in your wire leading from your sw runners not your headlights. I hope that helps.

Where is the ignition switch in an 1989 chevy S-10

Remove lower dash panel, under steering wheel, there will be a bracket that holds steering wheel, remove both 15mm nut's that point up, not the 13mm bolt's the screw into the colum , steering wheel will come down enough where you will see the ignition switch on the top side of the colum, the switch will be screw to the colum with the head light dimer switch.

You have to replace the switch inside the steering column. Last one I got I had to get from the dealer but you could try a parts store.

It is rather complex but it can be done at home. It will also require special tools. The haynes manuals do cover this repair I believe.

The best thing to do is to buy a Chilton,s repair manual. It has step by step procedures. You can get one at most auto parts stores. They coast anywhere from $10-$30 dollars.

I have a 1989 Chevrolet Truck CK 2500 2wd. I have had reason to remove the steering wheel and adjoining components to tighten the 4 screws that would loosen from time to time, giving me a sloppy steering...

I am experiencing similar problems on an '89 S-10. I have the entire steering column torn apart. There are 4 bolts inside the steering column that come loose and cause the steering wheel to move a little bit. I fixed that problem, but now I'm stuck. I believe there is something that is supposed to attached the shift tube to the gear bowl or the steering column housing, and now thats where I'm stuck. Hopefully you'll be able to tighten those 4 bolts inside the housing and be done with it, good luck. Anyone else have advice?
