There real pain to get to. There on the back side between the engine and the fire wall. You may be able to reach one or two from the top. Anything else would have to be reached from the bottom. These are difficult to change even on a lift, so don't get discouraged. If you're working in a garage or driveway this will be exponentially harder for you. But, it is very possible. Make sure you take your time and don't force anything. Those plugs could be very brittle and may break off in the cylinder head.

1997 Oldsmobile Achieva - check engine light is on and car is running sluggishly...brand new motor installed 6 weeks ago.

What speed are you going when it chugs?
It could be as simple as a bad spark plug or a spark plug wire/boot grounding out.
When spark plug boots get old, the rubber cracks and lets voltage arc out the side and to the engine instead of through the plug.
This will be most noticeable when trying to maintain a speed of over 40 mph, or under mild acceleration.
The reason for being noticeable at this speed/acceleration level is that the transmission torque converter will be locked, transferring the vibration from any engine miss straight through to the wheels.

at the end of rhe spark plug wires.

The spark plug wires are those long black whatchamacallits that you see on top of the big thing that makes your car go.

First lift the thingy and prop it up with that long metal stick.

Very easy process but takes a little time. Remove plastic cover on top of engine to uncover wires going back to ignition coils. Remove plug wire and trace back to coil. Remove and replace spark plugs on at a time, same with wires. Spark plugs need .5 gap. good luck

Where can I find a spark plug wiring diagram for 1997 3.1l engine

Normally the firing order will be stamped on the top of the intake manifold also the number one plug will be the front one on the drivers side of the car. On the top of the distributor cap you should see a number one that is where the number one plug wire goes follow the firing order on the manifold and go clock wise on the distributor cap
