There are two coolant lines that connect to this Honda IAC to help quiet the operation of the valve. The part number for a OBDI 1992-1995 Honda Civic Idle Air Controller is 36450-P28-A01. While the OBDII version of this valve is 36450-P2J-J01, and the two units are very similar in design and execution. The EACV or Electronic Air Control Valve is a big part of maintaining your Honda Civic idle. If you've checked your IAC and your Honda still suffers from a surging idle, check your FITV. This Honda Idle Air Controller or IAC is under the throttle body and incorporates into the throttle body passages o locate your Fast Idle Thermo Valve, remove the intake snorkel and locate the FITV beneath your throttle body opening. If your SOHC engine is still having problems, check our guides above on how to check your FITV as well as your IAC. To check this operation, remove your air intake pipe and use your fingers to plug the passages in the lower left hand corner of your throttle body opening. If your idle surge does not go away, unplug your Idle Air Control valve and if that stops your idle surge, your IACV must be replaced. Follow our instructions on how to replace your Honda Civic Idle Air Control Valve. Need to raise your Honda Civic idle or having problems maintaining idle? You can adjust the base idle by unscrewing or screwing in the Idle screw on your throttle body. This screw allows air to bleed into the passages on the backside of your throttle body, as shown above. To learn how to adjust Honda Civic idle speed, you will not need to remove anything. With a standard screwdriver, simply locate your throttle body and Idle screw.

The idle speed is controlled automatically by a computer. There is not adjustment. If you are having a problem then there is likely a problem in the systems parts.

The engine in my 1994 jeep grand cherokee 4.0 idles very low (below 400 r.p.m's) when it sits still, Can I idle it up....how??

The idle speed adjustment on most fuel injected vehicles is located in a recessed hole near the throttle butterfly on the intake manifold(sometimes with a plug in it). Screwing out the adjusting screw should increase idle speed.

When car sits a for a while it's hard to start and very low idle

my first ting to check would be battery, as since it is occurring when it sits for a while, then this would be the most likely source as the alternator charges the battery amd since the battery is low on charge, then this also causes the low idle

Idle Adjustment Screw Location on 96 Civic

your idle can not be manually adjusted. it is controled by the ecm via the throttle position sensor on the throttle body(tps). you have to have a diagnostic scanner to interface with the ecm to adjust the idle. most service shops have this equipment

Poor Idle, dies at stopsigns

I have used this fix for your problem for 20 years.
Here are some of the causes of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

I had the same problem with my honda. On the throttle body there is a screw that controls idle speed. If your idle speed is around 800-1000 rpm in neutral, tighten the screw a quarter turn each try until the idle speed is around 1500 RPM. Did this stop the idle?

Is it an OBD2-generation b16 engine (96 or newer)? If so, are you using the ECU from the car the engine came out of? You'll need to if you aren't, and you'll need the engine bay harness from it as well for things to work perfectly. Have you tried looking for an idle speed adjustment screw? My 300ZX has one on the idle air control valve, and it allows the idle to be adjusted manually. On my 99 Audi A4, I have to use the VagCom computer diagnostic system to adjust idle. I'd imagine on the Civic you can do it with an adjuster screw. Unfortunately I'm not sure where that is - check out www.civicforums.com and I bet you'll find it there though - that site has a wealth of knowledge and more than a few guys running motor swaps.
