Question about 1999 Subaru Legacy

95 legacy awd with a slipping clutch

I have a 95 legacy with 224k miles and most likely the original clutch. For quite some time, if after changing gear I hammer on the gas, the clutch seems to slip a bit. Moderate gas action, all is OK. Problem seems to be worsening though. Am I looking at a complete clutch replacement? Other possibilities? What would I expect to pay to have it replaced? Can I do it myself? I am reasonably competent guy mechanically, but I have never dealt with a clutch problem before. Thoughts?

This isn't the best issue to try to tackle in a driveway or a garage. You're going to have to remove the entire transaxle assembly. This job is one I even take skeptically. Personally, I would refer you to a very well equipped shop, or a transmission specialist.

Yes the problem is that the pressure plates is getting weak and doesnt keep enuf pressure on the clutch. ive replaced clutch sets on many diff vehicles and when they act like u decribe its usually the pressure plate. replace entire clutch kit and if u decent mechanically u should be able to do it. in a clutch kit they give u a diagram and directions. keep a very good note on what parts u took off where to ensure u put them back in the right place

Always let your vechile to reach operating temperature ,saves on wear and tear especially on them very cold mornings,Take it to your lube and maintence person and change the fluids and check for metals in the fluids you might have to replace soon, because the clutches are worn to a point of being replaced is the only option

Hello. Replacing the clutch in a 4WD is a pretty big job. Dealerships charge it as a ten hour job. It could take from 8-12. Joe

1996 Subaru liberty gearbox/driveline problems

Binding on tight turns are usally caused by a fault in the transmission tail end.
You can check in the following order.
1. Trans fuel level/ Change several time to flush the system..
2. Speed Sensor that sits on top of the tail end.
3. Duty-C Solenoid inside the tail end
3. Clutch Pack

Clutch is slipping real bad on my 95 subaru legacy

the flywheel may be shiny and slippery. Also the clutch may be very worn down. You will probably need to replace the clutch. While you have to remove the throwout bearing. replace that too.

95 Legacy Ls Wagon all-wheel drive does not work.

Check the awd fuse first, if this is ok then it is likely to be in the transmission the awd section is seperate to the rest of the trans, it has its own solonoid pack which can be a problem. Take to a trans specialist for an accurate diagnosis if the fuse is ok. If the fuse is missing come back to me for further info

just as your mechanic said it is the overrunning clutch case and you might be able to save it by changing the fluid in it and adding an additive we alway use the limited slip additive made for GM and it has gone away within 100 mile of driving. what this clutch does is links the front to the rear axel and if your tires do not match in size (overall diameter) this clutch has to work over time. and wil ruin this clutch . so check your tires first and hope the additive will save your clutches. good luck
