Hi,

Thanks for contacting Fixya.com
If the car wont crank when you turn the ignition key to "Start" position, means that the starter motor doesn't turn over the engine. Most commonly this could be caused by a dead battery.
However, if the battery is OK, but the starter still won't crank, there could be a number of possible reasons. Here are some of them:
1…The ignition switch could be at fault - it's a common problem.
2…The starter motor itself is common to fail.
3… Starter motor control wire could have bad connection.
4… Cars with an automatic transmission have a Neutral Safety Switch that allows the starter to be operated only when the transmission is in "Park" or "Neutral" position. When this switch isn't functioning properly, or for example, when the shifter is not fully engaged in "Park" or "Neutral" position, the starter also won't crank.
5…Similarly, cars with manual transmission have a switch installed at the clutch pedal that only allow the car to be started when the clutch pedal is depressed. The problem with this clutch pedal switch could also prevent the starter from operating
6…A problem with vehicle's security system or some other electronic control module (e.g, PCM, BCM) may also prevent the starter from operating.

Why will it crank but won`t turn over?

Have you checked for correct fuel pressure? Most parts stores have a loan-a-tool fuel pressure gauge kit, and if you remove the plastic engine cover you will find a fuel rail port to attach the tester. Just because you replaced with new pump, don't assume it is good. Many cheap aftermarket pumps are noisy and fail often.

If pressure is good, insure you have spark to the plugs.

Why won't it start?

There should be a clutch safety switch that prevents you from cranking the engine with the clutch engaged.
Have you checked the switch for power ?

Taures 2002 won't start battery and starter checked out good

Not really following your story.
When you say it will not start, the starter would only affect things if the engine will not crank.
If the engine will not crank, you would need to know if the battery is fully charged and if the starter has power and ground.
If the battery is low, something may be draining it overnight. If the battery is charged, the starter should have power.
The neutral safety switch or key switch could be the problem if the small wire on the starter has no power when the key switch is in the start position.

My 96 jeep Laredo will not turn over. I've checked

sorry turns over means ZERO
the crank shaft can spin or not
the starter can in fact spin and crankshaft not.
and some think turns over means, engine runs. now that fact makes turns over, a dead statement.

the word is cranks over, the engine cranks over robustlyl
and then the engine runs.
then runs for more that 3 seconds, and the ASD relay holds. (step by step his works like this ,93 to now)

wont crank ? (clear statement in fact)
cranks ok, (crank shaft spins fast) can be seen and heard.
runs for 3 seconds? and stalls (ASD relay drop out) can be seen.
runs for 5min and stalls. (complex)
runs for hours and stalls. (even more complex)
all are key facts to the solution.

tell more..... tell all it does good bad or ugly
for better suggestions!

Car won't crank over, I'm told its the starter but

It can be the problem with battery or starter. The voltages to both battery and starter needs to be checked with meter. Also check for battery to starter wire terminals,if its getting loose, then it can be the problem. ------- For more detailed troubleshooting, click the link below:--- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/10/1998-chrysler-sebring-won-t-crank.html ---------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Car crank but won't start

No start problem. This is many a times caused by weak battery or faulty battery, or can be possible that battery to starter connection is loose or faulty starter itself.First the battery to start and both battery and starter voltage needs to be checked and confirmed. If that is checked ok, then other possibilities like faulty spark plugs,m faulty fuel pump etc etc needs to be checked. My 1996 Buck LeSabre won't turn over. I took the starter off and had it checked, it was fine. I checked the starter fuses and all was fine. \ Cabling was fine to the starter, voltage was 12.54...

Be sure the AIR BAG/VATS fuse 10 amp, is good. there is a STARTER ENABLE RELAY up high on the left of the steering column. I ASSUME the anti theft light is not flashing?" at the STARTER ENABLE RELAY the YELLOW wire is hot in the crank mode and comes out large PURPLE to the starter. the small purple wire is hot in the crank mode if the fuse (air bag/vats) is good. the small yellow is grounded through the park switch and the VATS module (anti theft)

Hello. My 1997 Chevy Tahoe refuses to start. The problems began with a bad fuel pump. I changed. It worked. The fuel pump died again. I changed it again and it has been working. I parked it for two weeks....

Now you have a good battery & a starter that turns over the motor

Have you cycled the key on & off with a fuel pressure gauge on the
fuel rail?

Do you have a fuel filter that isn't over 3 or 4 years old?

Have you checked for spark while cranking ? Use an old plug on the wires,
if you have ignition wires, don't ground the wire without resistance

If you removed the ducting & MAF Sensor it won't start

Tell us what you checked & exactly how that was done.
