Dirty carb or injectors would be the first thing I would suspect.

What would cause my 98 Gmc Suburban to shift hard and the belt squel at same time, but only if i hot rod by takeing off fast (Gas pedal pushed down, rpm **** at 4-5)??

There is an electrical piece that wires into this model's transmission..., I know this from personal experience, same symptoms!! My transmission guy wired mine in two weeks after a rebuild and apologized for not doing it the first time!!! (No charge!!) Check to make sure you have the correct belt. There are two,(two different alternator pulley sizes, one is slightly smaller) ..thus a shorter belt than the other, (personal experience!!!)..this will eliminate belt squeal!!!

I have a 1993 GMC Suburban 5.7L that bogs down and back fires under load or when accelerating and only does it when vehicle has been driven all day or when warm on a hot day. Radiator does not overheat,...

Backfiring is most commonly caused from improper engine timing, or in some cases, a burnt valve. If you have changed your intake, it is possible to have slightly misaligned the distributor. You should also run some Carbon cleaner through the engine to rid the valves and pistons of any possible deposits, causing preignition

Can't get higher RPM's, mileage down to 5 mpg

Rob, it sounds like a throttle position switch to me. My 95 suburban with TBI had a similar problem and that fixed it. You may need a volt/ohm meter to rig it if you don't have a code reader that will monitor the values. I think the switch was about $25. Not sure if yours has a TBI or carburetor.

Good luck
