Question about 2005 Dodge Stratus

My 2005 Dodge Stratus is having air conditioner problems. I just replaced the alternator. The next day, it was hot enough outside to run the air conditioner. When I turned it on, I only received hot air. I then thought that I missed something I needed to do when I hooked everything back up. I checked and all the belts and connections were correctly in place or connected. I then added more coolant. The compressor did not come on. I checked the wiring voltage and the connections, they were receiving the proper voltage. I checked the fuses, they are good. I then manually tripped the compressor to come on and this worked. I then let it run for a couple minutes, but then the compressor started leaking the coolant as a release valve and the compressor automatically shut down. Then it would not turn back on automatically. I am not sure if there is something else I could do to see why it will not turn on automatically. It seems that the compressor is working but for some reason will only work if I trip it manually. I do not believe that the coolant is overloaded. The seals and hoses are good with no leaks.

The pressure switch on the accumilator is at fault if you bypassed it and the compressor worked. Remove the plug-in on switch and move plug away from the accumilator. Then with a small wrench or small pliers remove pressure switch. (be sure to grab it at the base as close as possible). The freon will stay in the system after removal of switch ( there is a valve core inside the accumilator DO NOT REMOVE IT) Replace the switch and check to see that a new o-ring is on switch. Use a little refrigerent oil to lubericate the o-ring before installing. Hope this will help you.

I have a 2005 stratus also and it has a chrysler sebring engine in it. I could not believe that. The ac has a relay that will autoshut down the compressor at certain intervals. I thought I was low on freon and charged it and I ended up overcharging and it would not blow cold air anymore. I took the charge back off I put in and it worked fine. It is a fuel saving system that does shut down the compressor even if you have it running full cold. there is no reason changing alternator would cause ac not to work. it could be the pressure switch and then when you added freon it overcharged it and shut down like mine. these engines today are so delicate. mine also had a idle problem with the ac on but ran great at reg speeds. found out it was the plugs and wires after I change the idle air control valve. seems that motor has to have champion platumum sparkplugs and autozone sold me autolite that did not work. Dodge could not figure it out and only did that as a last ditch effort and it worked. hope this helps

i hope this helps for the water pump. The thermostat is located at top of engine simply follow upper hose to engine and remove housing and replace thermostat.

1999 dodge stratus belt noise


Your belt may be worn & slipping. Check on the inside of belt for lost belt v grooves. If O.K., you may have a a bearing starting to sieze i.e. on alternator, power stearing, air conditioner condenser, or idler pulley. You will be able to check this by slackening belt & spinning each pulley. Good luck & Merry Christmas!

My husband replaced the alternator in our 2005 Dodge Stratus but the check engine light is still on. How do we get the light to turn off if there isn't any other problem?


scan it .to get code. when you replace alternator on most new cars.by the alternator being PCM CONTROL you have to erase the code before putting in alternator.because they wont charge.if you dont erase code.the PCM still thinks the old alternator.still in car.also make sure your battery is good also cables good.drive belt not slipping.and the alternator connectors not damage.

Thermostat needs replace on 2005 Dodge Stratus 2.4 liter motor


If it's a chrysler engine the thermostat is located just below radiator cap. If mitsubishi diamond star engine it's located on the cylinder head , beside the air cleaner housing

Dodge stratus thermostat


I just replaced my thermostat and it is located below the alternator. You have to remove the alternator and the wiring to it and lift the car up. You will then be able to access the thermostat. You could prbably have a local shop fix it for around $175-$200.
