The cooling fans are controled by the engine computer, they are not directly controled by a sensor or switch. If the fans are not energizing you will need to have a scanner to test the electronics to determine why the fans do not come on. However if you turn the a/c on the fans should energize and you could test for power at the fan if power is present then the fan has failed. Please rate this answer this will help me out Thankyou RJ

I have a 2000 ford focus 1.6i zetec can you tell me where the coolant temperature sensor is located please

The temp sensor will be close to or in the thermostat housing.(top radiator hose). A temp sensor also controls cooling fan. this sensor is usually mounted in the radiator. I strongly recommend that you purchase a Chilton manual for this vehicle.

Cuts off when it gets to temp

You say that the temp switch is good but are you refering to the temperature sender unit for the temperature gauge or the sensor switch ( 2 wires ) that communicates to the ECM to turn on the fan when the coolant temperature reaches a pre determined point. Find it and replace it

My 2003 ford focus stalls out when i turn on the defroster or the air. the fan never comes on to cool the engine. we tried to find the temp sensor but we couldnt find where its located

You may have a locked up compressor. The fan only comes on when temp reaches 225 on high speed. Your low speed fan operation is controlled by the resistor that is between the two fans at the top. The connector usually melts and you will need to get two heavy duty female spade connectors to repair it.

I have the U S wiring book. It may be similar to European version. I will look at work and see. Does the cooling fan come on when you turn on the a/c and the compressor clutch? The fan should cycle with the a/c clutch. Also, do you have 12 volts at the motor connection when the car is hot? There should be a big fuse in the box under the hood and probably a relay.
ALso, the ECT, engine coolant temp sensor on the engine should also tell the computer to turn on the fan when the coolant hits a certain temp.

the temp sensor is right at the top of the head,so if the engine gets up to running temp (even though the rad is cool)it thinks it has a hot spot,so the fan comes on for a minute.then as the "hotspot "goes, the fan switches off.its not a problem unless the fan stays on,then change the sensor.

Hi hypajunior, Check your coolant level ensure you have power to the fan (I am assuming it is an electric fan) if you have power to the fan you may want to check your thermostat or the coolant temp sensor,it will be a thread in fitting with a plug attached to it hope this helps good luck to you
